One of the most significant weaknesses of macOS is persistent network file system connectivity and configuration with NFS and SMB. It shouldn't be, it's freaking UNIX. They make it intentionally difficult.

There are very few true 8-port 10GbE desktop switches under $500. Netgear’s ~$500 option only has 4×10GbE (rest 2.5G). QNAP tops out at 6. I grabbed the Trendnet TEG-S7102: 8×10GbE RJ-45 + 2×SFP+ for under $400.
