I think forcing a website to shut down until the "Create revenge porn" switch is put in the "off" position is an acceptable form of government censorship

Independent monetary policy means that the Federal Reserve ostensibly tries to set interest rates and steer the economy in such a way that's good for the ENTIRE economy, not just the stock market.

If the rich can set their own monetary policy, the whole US economy is fucked and the world will bail.

If US debt becomes too expensive to service it won't just be a depression.

We'll lose our place as the world's reserve currency, which is a huge part of what's maintained our standard of living for the better part of a century.
And thus, the economy tanks and we'll face at least another recession or at worst a depression.

And yes, as someone with credit card debt I'd *love* to get the APR down to 10%, but at the same time I also know credit card companies will do everything in their power to make a profit off my debt.

That could mean stuff like cancelling my card and offloading my debt to a third party.

Keep in mind Trump just ordered credit card companies to drop their rates by up to 2/3rds, making offering credit not only unprofitable but makes existing debt a threat to their books.

Fortunately an executive order can't do shit, but this is the kind of business acumen Trump possesses.

The very real worry is that the financial idiot who bankrupted every business he's ever run will decide what matters more than anything is low interest and cheap money, without regard to the inflation that would cause.

This is the dipshit who still insists foreign governments pay our tariff costs.

- The US owes a lot of debt in the form of bonds.
- If other countries lose faith in the US, they'll sell the bonds they hold.
- The US cost of borrowing rises as a result of our debt being considered risky.
- That starts turning into a downward spiral.
- Inflation goes berserk, the dollar crashes.

If you don't understand the whole Federal Reserve thing and why it's scaring the shit out of everyone, here's the very very abbreviated basics:

- The Fed sets US monetary policy independent of our government.
- That gives other countries confidence that when we put out numbers, they're real.

this is not a party gearing up to even pare back funding, let alone abolish ICE. I cannot stress enough that it'd be cleaner and easier to just get rid of every last one of them via primary than try to figure out which is worth saving
Democrats officially going all in on the mealy mouthed “ICE needs training” narrative.

No. ABOLISH ICE.
WARNER: It used to take 5 to 6 months to get trained. They've now lowered the training period to 47 days. Why 47 days? Because Donald Trump's the 47th president. Tell me that's a rational approach

KERNEN: I'm not taking that bait

WARNER: Joe! You can't pick your facts

I know the doctor who ICE blocked from helping Renee Good. (I won’t identify him since he hasn’t chosen to identify himself.) I’m glad to see this part of ICE’s crime get more attention.
“Can I check a pulse?” yelled the bystander, standing across Portland Avenue from Renee Good’s lifeless body inside her crashed SUV, video footage of the exchange shows.

“No,” an agent replies. “Back up.”

“I’m a physician!”

“I don’t care.”
‘I’m a physician,’ he said. ‘Don’t care’ was the reply.
Bystander medical assistance was declined during the restraint-related death of George Floyd, and now after the shooting of Renee Good.

Barely anyone is going to see this, but if you’ve ever asked why X isn’t banned in the UK yet despite creating CSAM, it’s because the US government has enforced a worldwide policy of blackmail protecting the American tech oligarchy. It’s why TikTok can be banned but X cannot.
“Why can’t we have any regulations for US tech in Britain?”

Because the US trade rep has gone to every country including Britain and said if we regulate tech in a way that favours our people, industries and national interests, the US will bury us in tariffs and ruin our economy.
