My new book is about this! And almost no mainstream journalism outlet has had me on to talk about what is the really big story of this era! Go buy Corporate Control to learn how it happened.
I think in the long run, the really big story of this era is that about a dozen absolutely massive corporations took control of unprecedented swaths of the economy, human attention, and the flow of information.

I think many of our problems are downstream from that.

For sure woulda come round sooner if any of this was shown me in school. Like all we got was -traumatized war refugees found an empty bit of desert and then besieged by irrational horde of violent extremists.
Didn't learn about the Nakba til my 40s

Fascism sets in EXACTLY like this. Days go by. Nothing improves. The people wait with bated breath for SOMETHING or SOMEONE to help. Court orders, but no enforcement. Time passes. We become desensitized. Life goes on. Rights are chipped away. Life goes on. People die. Life goes on.

1) USPS did not lose $3.3b. It provided a service that cost $3.3b. *The Pentagon* loses you money, however, every time it accidentally yeets a fighter jet off the deck of a carrier
NEW: The U.S. Postal Service posted a net loss of $3.3 billion in this fiscal year’s second quarter mainly due to “significant challenges out of our control,” including workers’ compensation costs, Luke Grossmann, USPS chief financial officer, said at the open session of the governing board meeting

Historians will propose in due course a name for this current phase we are witnessing in the United States. My early submission: The Great Dismantling.

I always say why would you want a bunch of killjoys who don't like food or music to reshape the world...
There’s a real link between AI writing and Silicon Valley meal replacement drinks and the entire fuckin swath of maximizing the human experience and it’s that they view pleasure as being unhelpful to life. I don’t want a drink that replaces a meal, I don’t want a book summary, I want to savor things

We’ve built entire org cultures around the appearance of momentum, where design and strategy are just templates applied at speed by people who won’t be around to see the results. The rise of AI just accelerates this, because it helps us defer complexity behind prettier outputs.
This week's issue expands upon some of my recent threads. Tech is besieged by template ronin - grifters peddling simple, quick, and cheap "solutions" that don't actually fix anything.

Together with their loyal AI squires, template ronin leave a trail of destruction for the rest of us to clean up.
Attack of the Template Ronin
Learning “best practices” by rote has produced a cohort of shallow generalists. Solving real-world challenges requires tailoring your methods to the problem's unique context.

The Republicans win because they don’t cede any ground.

You don’t see their officials quoting Roosevelt.

They have a whole ass messaging apparatus dedicated to vilifying their opposition and pushing the most extreme parts of their agenda.

They shift the debate and Dems follow. Always.

if you can spell things like:

"Disinformation"
"Misinformation"
"Fibs"
"Untruths"
"Fabrications"
"Demonstrable falsehoods"
“Plays loosely w/facts”
"Mendacity"
"Prevarications”
Or "whoppers"

Then you're probably able to spell the word “lies.”
