I've been following media coverage of immigration in detail over the last six weeks. There hasn't been a day during that period that the British people weren't told that asylum seekers are a drain on society or a danger to women and children

Illegal migration isn't tearing this country apart, but our obsession with it is. It's an obsession fuelled by our media and politicians. Both profit from blowing the problem out of all proportion. It's been happening for decades, but never more so than now

i think online gambling is a cancer that is spreading throughout our society, it was a horrible mistake to de-regulate it, and we desperately need to crack down on it again
i can’t talk about sports gambling anymore without sounding like a crank but i do believe legalized sports gambling is like 15-20% responsible for our current dystopia
The Athletic polled hundreds of players from across the NBA, NFL, MLB and NHL about their opinions surrounding how sports betting impacts players — the responses were haunting.

Obviously this is ghoulish pseudo-technological nonsense and it's objectively a good thing that it can never actually exist, but still somehow the most unrealistic thing in this ad is that it shows the service this company offers continuing, functionality unchanged, for decades
For real, check this out. Evil.

pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

if you don't read the Telegraph or the Times or the Mail - and frankly, why would you nowadays, as a decent human being? - you might not realize just how much they've radicalized to the far-right, especially the Telegraph.

wonder if this could have anything to do with the British press running a 24/7 hate campaign where typically a single newspaper might contain 3 anti-trans stories *a day*
"The wide-ranging polling on attitudes also suggested the proportion of the public feeling transgender rights have gone "too far" has more than doubled in five years" I WISH there was a follow-up question as to what new trans rights they think have come in over say, I dunno, the last 15 years?

Here's some stuff I painted recently and forgot to post.

I finally finished the Epic Encounters Local Legends Kickstarter box, and I also did two of the small Heroquest boxes.

Just basic paint jobs to get my to-do list down a bit.

Here's another bit of conventional wisdom Zohran completely blew away: His speech was at well above a 10th-grade level. It was complex, erudite, punctuated by deep and fluent references. You don't have to condescend to voters with baby talk! Part of re-establishing norms is speaking like an adult.

Burn the gambling industry down. Seize the assets of every single company and plough them into mental health services. Sow the ground with salt.

Possibly crack out the guillotines as well.

Small point I hadn't noticed until someone highlighted it to me on the other site; a commentator who still thinks of a computer monitor as a "TV screen" is likely to be out of touch on other matters too.
I'm always quite sceptical of claims like this. The main barrier to data-led campaigns in Britain is the availability of data on registered voters, not the tech to analyse it

It seems possible to me that they basically are just repeating, like a broken telephone, a message that is everywhere, mostly due to the deliberate perversion of our normal media channels through far-right propaganda, due to the artificial boosting of their messaging online.

Went canvassing tonight and I'm starting to develop a theory of the Reform, and indeed general anti-immigrationist phenomenon that goes something like this: it's a moral panic. In the traditional sense.

X is a cesspit led by an unhinged billionaire who is desperately trying to stir up civil war in Britain.

Nobody with any sense or decency should be there.

No organisations, government departments, or politicians should be there.

Everyone who is, is enabling this monster.

Bland boilerplate is honestly sort of underrated. You don’t really *want* a big faceless organization or stranger trying to be your friend when giving you potentially bad news. Obviously actual personal empathy is better but that’s not always possible.
