MAKE ME BETTER is my forthcoming novel about the horrors of community. It is about cults, wellness, control, and the things we will do to escape grief.

Yes. Legit-sounding book clubs (with web pages and Etsy merch shops and all) say they want to do your book, waste your time with 2 rounds of planning emails, then say they need your headshot, bio, and the “standard $212 administrative fee” or whatever. Scam scam scammity scam scam.

🚨 New scam alert 🚨

Scammers are now impersonating representatives of Silent Book Club to target authors by pretending they've been nominated for a reader award. The screencapped email here was followed up by a request for a video, press materials... and a "submission fee."
Text reads: ALERT Scammers are impersonating Silent Book Club to solicits independent authors for money in exchange for being featured on our platform. If you are a recipient of an email impersonating a chapter organizer or member of the Silent Book Club, please BLOCK the sender and report the abuse to the service provider (e.g. Google, TikTok, Meetup) Text reads as follows: It has been reported to us that scammers are impersonating Silent Book Club cofounders and local chapter organizers. They are asking authors for money in exchange for being featured. Silent Book Club does not solicit individual authors. We do partner with publishers and businesses. Any official outreach from Silent Book Club LLC will come from a @silentbook.club email address. Some local chapter organizers do use gmail accounts, but they are not authorized to solicit payment from authors or businesses.
