Think I'm going to reread "The Year Without Sunshine" tonight. (This is a @naomikritzer.bsky.social appreciation post. ❤️ ) 🧵
"The Year Without Sunshine" by @naomikritzer.bsky.social hits even harder now (but in a good way).

Award-winning story, set in Minneapolis. Very appropriate for this place and this time. It's about community & taking care of each other. (10,883 words).

Wow! Matty's been so quiet all series and then comes out with that.

Also, that first question was technically two questions, but then the next question was more of a wish, so it all balances out. #TheTraitors

I was uncertain about how much to say about this in public, but I do have a small platform here and on this occasion I guess I’ll stand on it.

I remember Christmases dealing with mum's dementia, from the "your turn to explain why it's called Stinking Bishop" rota to trying to explain that my niece didn't hate the keyboard she'd got her, she'd just forgotten the hour she spent watching her play it. Adding in fake memories too? Horrific.
The comments on this are all about how sweet it is and I feel insane. Using AI to make fake memories of your grandma with dementia and telling her they happened and then filming her reaction

Ok so
The headline is a bit misleading. AI shows racist bias in that psychiatric model (not surprising)
The slides issue is more complex--the AI detects markers that are correlated with race and then can't diagnose because it's been trained on too many white ppl (1/?)

At Barnsley to watch Leyton Orient play. Slightly ashamed to admit it's my first live match of the season. The afternoon sky is very pretty, but not that conducive to seeing any action on the pitch. #LOFC

This, by the way, is not a BBC problem. Sure plenty of people will respond happily to Robin’s stance as if it’s “anti-Beeb”.

This is a problem with the world at large, a cruelty which has been stamped into the face of the compliant BBC, cos it knows its precarious place.

And we do not have to live in a cage.
Not easy to get to sleep tonight - have burnt the bridge of whatever career I had left and really don’t feel that my opinions are so extreme that that should have been necessary
Very sad that I felt I had no choice but to resign from The Infinite Monkey Cage - a victory for the transphobes and other bigots - I did it because so much of the media has chosen to believe the kind and empathetic people are a fiction - they are real and so often unrepresented.
