Sheffield,-UK-based liberal leftie geek, into SFF generally and Dr Who specifically. Likes cycling and birdwatching, but very much playing both on easy mode. LOFC fan in exile. Pronouns he/him/himself

Also on Mastodon as @djm4@mastodon.me.uk
Just tried BlueSky's age verification partner again. It's still quite rude about my features.

Also following the instructions as they appear on screen? I took my glasses off - I can barely see that they exist!

I give you Blake facing off against Travis.

My first walk out of the house since coming down with Covid on late Tuesday. Sheffield from Parkwood Springs on a November afternoon: I love my city.

Oh dear.

(clears plans for the next week or so)

Multicoloured arc in the sky at Sheffield to send me on my way to see a black and white Ark at Riverside Studios in Hammersmith. #DoctorWho

If you see this, post a chef

Going with a few other BiCon people to see The Prince by Abigail Thorn at the Lace Market Theatre.

The bisexual community doesn't have a lot of money, so we frugally re-use and recycle. Case in point: our banner was a recycled Brighton Bothways one, but we hid it well. I'm sure no-one noticed.

Me with a Rubik's cube: I can solve this in a minute from forty-year-old muscle memory.

Me with a Premier Inn tea-making container: curse this impenetrable puzzle box!
June 12, 2025 at 6:40 AM
At the Royal Albert Hall to see Anaïs Mitchell and Ani DiFranco. Hugely excited! Very impressed by the huge bisexual organ behind the stage.

Of to watch Leyton Orient in the League One play-off finals. Up the Os! #LOFC
May 25, 2025 at 9:59 AM
In Huddersfield to watch Orient's final league match of the season. We're at the bottom of the playoff zone. Below us, Reading are equal on points, but with a better goal difference, so we need to do at least as well as they do today and we're in the playoffs. Simples.
May 3, 2025 at 2:10 PM
At the Shepherd's Bush Empire to see Jim Bob. Mr Spoons is killing it on the decks in the warm-up.
April 12, 2025 at 6:33 PM
Altogether lighter fare at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane for Much Ado About Nothing, where they have transformed the theatre into a disco complete with lighting. This selfie does not use a filter. They are currently playing Sophie Ellis Bextor as the audience arrives.
March 29, 2025 at 7:07 PM
At the Donmar Warehouse to see Backstroke, a play which apparently has themes of dementia, memories and motherhood. As someone whose mother died over 30 years ago and whose stepmother's memory is increasingly erratic, I'm expecting to have a complicated reaction to this one.

Also, given that I had my binoculars with me and there was a partial eclipse of the sun happening, I took the opportunity to project it onto a handy plane tree.

Just seen a little owl on Clapham Common, a life tick for me. Many thanks to my friend Alex, who spotted it a few days ago and told me exactly where to look. #birds
March 29, 2025 at 11:50 AM
At The Crucible with Fred to watch Death and the King's Horseman by Wole Soyinka, which I last saw in 1991 when the Churchill student theatre group took it to Edinburgh.

It's not the grandest of station arches, but I do like the sense of perspective you get from the footbridge looking down Platform 6 at Manchester Piccadilly.
February 1, 2025 at 12:46 PM
Third musical of the weekend: Why Am I So Single? at the Garrick Theatre.
January 11, 2025 at 7:18 PM
In Highgate at the Upstairs at the Gatehouse theatre to see Sondheim's Road Show, the first of three musicals that I'm seeing this weekend.
January 10, 2025 at 7:25 PM
I made my first visit to Sheffield's new food market at the Cambridge Street Collective today. After wandering around for a bit I overcame my choice paralysis and had the vegetarian musakhan from the Baity Palestinian restaurant, which was delicious. (Also hot chocolate from Locale Coffee.)
December 7, 2024 at 2:34 PM
Back at Brisbane Road after an absence of a few years to see #LOFC take on Bristol Rovers. It's good to be back, even though the Os aren't exactly topping the League at the moment.

Yes, that looks like parkin! And smells like it too. Only a couple of weeks until we find out if it tastes like it, too (I'm sure it will).
November 5, 2024 at 8:38 PM
At the @sohoplace theatre to see White Rabbit Red Rabbit. In a few minutes, Stockard Channing will walk on stage, take the envelope from the chair, open it, and act out the script within, which she is seeing for the first time.
