How do we mobilize to stop this?
From a St Paul Dept of Safety and Inspections email: construction permit for a new $11m CBP building construction permit at 670 Bayfield Street next to the downtown StP airport. Note location right near the runways. "Great" place to deport from! @mollycoleman.bsky.social @melvincarter.bsky.social

5pm on November 1: let’s go for a walk, it’s still light out!

5pm on November 2: an early darkness blankets the land. Fallow fields lay bone-bleached by moonlight. The last memories of summer fade into oblivion. The last echoes of hope lapse into baleful silence.

holy fuck. Thank you, @assignedmedia.org, for bringing this up. Right on, blue state govs.
On Friday 18 blue state attorneys general BLASTED the Federal Trade Commission, telling it to back off trans youth healthcare and warning of an insidious attempt to reshape the regulation of medicine in the US.

And nobody covered it.

I get that the news cycle is packed right now, but I just heard from a colleague at the Smithsonian that this is fully a GIANT SQUID BEING EATEN BY A SPERM WHALE and it’s possibly the first ever confirmed video according to a friend at NOAA

E.g. plant all the zinnia seeds and then thin them and trust, because seriously: they will use all that light and space and you’ll thank yourself for your small brutalities. 🌱

Shout out today to St. Paul institution George’s Shoes & Repair. I walked in with a broken biking shoe, hoping to avoid buying a new pair. I walked out 5 minutes later with a fixed shoe, no charge, ready to get back on the road. They are a local treasure and take mail order repair requests.

I think one challenge in living among so much uncertainty and tragedy is the way capitalism has taught us that our quiet, domestic moments don’t count for anything. (1/6)

Worse than that. Read this EO carefully, it says anyone they see as essentially out of their mind OR homeless. It’s repeated under every point they make. This here allows to take anyone they see as a “threat” and put into an institution.
Now Trump will treat being homeless as an offense to justify imprisoning people without trial in the growing set of concentration camps that he avoids calling what they are. All in the name of safe public spaces and less crime. Unconstitutional, but hard to stop.

Em Dash, you were the dramatic one. The centerpiece. The gasp between clauses. I just… clarified things. Bridged distances. Showed up on time, wore neutrals, and kept relationships tidy.

I carry this feeling with me all day these days, “whatever is likable about our people’s warm patter does not in any way forgive what we have done to the world.” Powerful, brilliant, illuminating essay about an ICE job fair.

Okay, this is delightful. Guess what this is. Guess.

It’s a coffin for a fish.

At some point between 600-300 BC, someone buried their pet fish. It didn’t get the super fancy treatment that cats and falcons got, but by god, it got a little wood coffin of its own.

A key moment in this @racketmn.com piece by @spencer-white.bsky.social is when a teen asks some friends to come to a meeting and a bunch do.

So many stories of activism/advocacy start NOT with some eureka moment of perfect moral clarity, but with relationships + down-to-earth invitations like that.

St. Francis School Board members recently restricted certain books to appease conservative ideologues. But the Trump-voting exurban community isn’t as monolithic as the book banners thought.
