While this is a banger of a story, let's look again at that image of three federal officiers with guns drawn and pointed at an unarmed observer in her car. She's a citizen, but her status isn't really the point. These "officers" are the problem, and you can plainly see why.

The Epstein emails should really end the debate over whether society should have billionaires. "Do you want there to be a class of people so powerful they can fuck your kids and no one will even try to do anything" seems like an easy sell if everyone in politics wasn't trying to get on their payroll

Far steeper than any other backsliding country, because Hong Kong is legally a semi-autonomous region of China
From the economist: how the US descent into totalitarian practices under Trump is far steeper than any other backsliding country. Largely enabled by the Opus Dei Court, his indispensable partner.

I cannot tell you how much it sucked seeing Chomsky say this five days after it happened but finding out he was cooking up this take while taking favors from Jeffrey Epstein really adds another layer of bitterness

On August 12, 2017, Heather Heyer was killed by a neo-Nazi in Charlottesville.

On August 17, 2017, Noam Chomsky told the Washington Examiner that antifa was “a gift to the far right”.

In between those dates he met with Jeffrey Epstein in Tuscon.

This. Beyond a certain threshold, money exists primarily as power. Power to sway markets. Power to set policy. And power to get away with doing whatever the hell you want.
Years ago, a friend asked me why billionaires want MORE money when they could never spend the tiniest fraction of what they have.

My answer is that they want immunity. The immunity to do literally any horrific they want without consequence.

Nothing I've seen since has changed my mind.

Israel and Saudi Arabia committed two of the worst genocides of the post-war era, and Hillary Clinton has the gall to say this while backing both of them.

Hillary Clinton wrote an Atlantic piece about MAGA's "moral rot." Her two most recent public appearances include her saying that young people only care about Gaza because of "totally made-up videos," and her saying this week that Saudi Arabia is “a very strong model for other parts of the world.”

News outlets like CNN did everything they could to ignore and dismiss these until they couldn’t. One really important thing to note is that this is happening during the week, which changes both the impact and visibility. More than any other thing the ruling class fears is the stoppage of business.

Sustained occupation foments sustained resistance. With each city the administration hits, the response becomes more organized and disciplined, and an entire region unified like this is unstoppable.

One detail getting lost in the coverage of Don Lemon's arrest?

Oh. My. God. Chomsky talking about the 'hysteria' that has developed about the abuse of women and giving Epstein advice on how to handle the media. In 2019. The Media studies discipline and much of the left should reflect on the power given to this one flawed man to shape generations of thought.
