FLOOD: Here's the deal: Some hospitals that are rural hospitals are going to eventually have to transition from being acute bed hospitals into being an ER model

The Republicans demanding respectability politics right now need to reckon with their own responsibility with actively trying to normalize gun violence in response to speech and their incredible naivety that it would never apply to them
I would care more about Charlie Kirk’s family’s pain if he had ever given a fuck about mine, which includes a ten year old who has to deal with active shooter drills, a 1st Gen Mexican immigrant mother, and the few progressives in my family who he’s been happy to suggest meet violent ends.

The night after the murder of Melissa Hortman, the Democratic legislator in Minnesota, the Yankees were at the Red Sox and neither team requested a moment of silence.

For an actual public servant.

Who we choose to hold a moment of silence for and who we do not are silences that speak volumes.

The political centre sees the US and Israel’s war on Iran as a crisis to be managed, while the gap between their detached politics and bloody rhetoric widens, says Guardian columnist Nesrine Malik

Hello historians - this is going to be a moment when you can pitch “why ICE is in fact like the Gestapo.” And if you’re up for writing that, you should. Much as “it’s rude to call them concentration camps” discourse in 2017, we need you.
Why is the comparison wrong? What about ICE or how ICE operates demonstrates that it’s wrong?

My uncle, on the other hand, now believes that Hillary Clinton made AIDS airborne because of something he read on Facebook.

There’s maybe no better demonstration of how centrism works than a guy tanking any kind of positive agenda and his own personal likability to move from -77 to -76 approval from the center-right party
Keir Starmer's net favourability rating has dropped 12pts in a month to -46, his lowest level ever, including a 34pt drop among Labour voters

All Britons: -46 net rating (down 12 from 13-14 Apr)

By 2024 vote
Labour: -5 (down 34)
Lib Dem: -13 (down 12)
Conservative: -76 (up 1)
Reform: -94 (down 5)

Simple: Rentals are temporary accommodations (also know as a hotel) dressed up as if they were a home.

An Apartment Rental is not a long term home and we have to stop allowing it to be substituted as such.

Through a rental moratorium, we are stopping landlords from exploiting our communities.

"I would rather pay MORE money so that people I consider undeserving of this benefit don't get it than just give it to everyone" is a major driver of how we design programs around the country and it is so fucking stupid and unnecessary
Not fraud related but see also school lunch programs…cheaper to just give them to everyone

we almost successfully talked about racism for about 3 minutes and that was enough for the right to get to make DEI the new boogeyman and move white nationalists back into power

“moderate” white people were convinced that asking for police to not murder Black people indiscriminately was too radical
One of the more frustrating things about the way many think about racism is that unless someone uses slurs, mainstream outlets and some academics give the benefit of the doubt.

You can resegregate schools, lie and claim that it’s about “markets” or “choice,” and get invites in polite society.

This was my Blair Iraq War moment: now I also despise Starmer.

We have another despicable Labour Leader
Starmer's immigration speech made me the angriest I've been since the Brexit referendum because it left me with an identical "you've just made life MUCH more dangerous for foreigners" sick feeling in my stomach.

Remember when people were screamed at to "go home" as soon as the votes were counted?
