Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

can we keep Nora Leerhsen? please? from my view she’s been hitting it out of the park

I fucking hate these monsters, and I need our politicians to start describing in detail how we are going to round them up and hold them accountable.
this morning, ICE went into a Spanish language immersion daycare and took a teacher from the building in front of screaming and crying kids and parents at dropoff and the daycare had to shut down for the day (near Lane Tech, where they were yesterday). Really hoping today's "theme" is not "daycare."

So this morning my kindergartener and I were walking to school with a 1st grader and her mom who live on our block, just a couple doors down. I told my son to ask how her Halloween went, figuring it's an easy topic for a 5 and 6 year old to chit-chat about on the 5-10 minute walk.

couldn't really believe it when a friend told me his partner doesn't ride transit bc it gives her anxiety, and that's why I don't drive

i think if you ride public transit enough you learn that most weird behavior is not dangerous, and conversely i think driving a car teaches you that everyone is trying to kill you at all times

Just bought tickets for the kindergartener and I to see a sing-along matinee of K-Pop Demon Hunters this weekend, which got me thinking about the last time I saw a sing-along in the theater. I'm almost positive it was a midnight screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, probably 18 years ago?

I am both impressed and somewhat disturbed by my 5 year old's recent self portrait. 😬 I think I may have a future Adult Swim animator here - I'm kinda getting some Venture Bros-esque vibes here, which is definitely a compliment since it's in my top 3 favorite shows of all time.

Well, it seems I've once been bitten badly by a computer game bug 🫨

I fired up RimWorld for the first time on the first of the month, and already have over 20 hours on it. I've even switched out my standard podcasts for listening to a streamer play during work, which hasn't happened since BG3...

Hey @nomads.bsky.social, right now we need to put the pressure on @govpritzker.illinois.gov to stop being an ICE collaborator and stop letting his state police play concentration camp guard in Broadview.

This WILL NOT mitigate any problems, and the state should not be pulling this shit. @govpritzker.illinois.gov, you've talked a big game about opposing Trump, and now the state is pulling this? "Free speech zones" exist to make protesters irrelevant. Everyone knows this.

I know everything is a giant shit show all the time now, but my kindergartener Nate just brought home a painting he did in art class with his name signed like this on the back - and I think it's pretty creative and cool.

Immigration is a very good thing, and we should be facilitating it on a massive scale.

My family escaped Ukraine from the pogroms and were lucky enough to escape to the US.

They took my family in — we had nothing and offered nothing, but a desire to get ahead and be free while being safe.

This is a country of immigrants, and we should be honoring that history.

"They're politicians, what are they supposed to do? Literally fight in the streets?"

Unashamed to say this made me cry.

Alrighty, it looks like this is about to temporarily become a butterfly appreciation account again. 😁

When I went out to water my (extremely overgrown) parsley this morning I found two new tiny baby caterpillars - more Black Swallowtails at their "2nd instar" stage apparently?
