I am both impressed and somewhat disturbed by my 5 year old's recent self portrait. 😬 I think I may have a future Adult Swim animator here - I'm kinda getting some Venture Bros-esque vibes here, which is definitely a compliment since it's in my top 3 favorite shows of all time.

Lol... I just bought myself one of those at a garage sale this summer! It's great since my husband is not often home and my kid is not big enough to help with that kinda thing yet.

Highly recommended!

In addition to containing tons of fantastic photos, it also just feels really good to support people doing the really valuable work while everything else seems to be falling the fuck apart.

I know everything is a giant shit show all the time now, but my kindergartener Nate just brought home a painting he did in art class with his name signed like this on the back - and I think it's pretty creative and cool.

Well, what's the point of having a soul-sucking insurance spreadsheet-jockey gig (I have one too) if you can't use that paycheck to make life outside the office a little less miserable. Well, OTHER than using it spoil the cats, of course! 😸

What a bad-ass. This is the kind of grit and commitment to the community that I open my wallet for.

As someone who does most of their traveling on foot - holy cow, am I glad to have a stockpile of KN95 masks to wear outside. 😷

Alrighty, it looks like this is about to temporarily become a butterfly appreciation account again. 😁

When I went out to water my (extremely overgrown) parsley this morning I found two new tiny baby caterpillars - more Black Swallowtails at their "2nd instar" stage apparently?
July 23, 2025 at 2:28 PM
Yep. And that is exactly why I let this little asshole (the cat who I adore with my whole heart) scream in my face at 4:30 every morning.

The timeline fits! My spikey little friend disappeared 9 days ago, which is within the timeframe mentioned here 😊

I've had kind of a shit week, so it's ridiculous how much this has boosted my mood! www.raritanheadwaters.org/2020/04/01/c....

I'm just going to tell myself this is my spikey caterpillar friend clumsily stretching his new butterfly wings 🦋
July 10, 2025 at 8:29 PM
Oh spikey friend - could this possibly be you?!
July 10, 2025 at 8:28 PM
Everything sucks right now, but I just ordered a copy your photo book - and as a long time supporter from many years back (obviously I'm the one who's not Robyn 🤣) that at least gives me one small reason to smile on an otherwise suck-tastic day.

I mean, we all got to do what we got to do to make it through the day - right?

I just count myself as *extremely lucky* to have such amazing local businesses to help me limp through it all.

Big old platonic Northsider *SMOOCH* right back atcha as I enjoy my own local brew and contemplate the crumbling republic 🍻

Thank you - and all of those families - for this incredibly difficult but incredibly important work. You all have my love, appreciation and admiration!

One more wedding picture, just cuz I'm feeling nostalgic now. I mean, goddamn just look at that place.. 😍
July 1, 2025 at 4:33 PM
Nope, we got married by a judge in a big tent at a Bed & Breakfast called Hawk Valley Retreat - one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. The owners were lovely about everything and my husband and I - being pretty staunch atheists - had not a whisper of god at our wedding.

actually had our wedding in Galena in 2009 (it was our favorite yearly getaway and little piece of heaven) and Galena Cellara provided all the wine 🍷

My Penzeys' spices say hello to yours! 👋

I've also got a pretty good sized bush of alley grapes growing alongside our garage.

I had no idea grapes could even grow in Chicago - and haven't a clue what variety these are since we didn't plant them - but the birds seem to like them so we let them go wild.

*Chomp chomp chomp*

They're doing the "Very Hungry" bit now, I see. 😃

Another view of my spikey new friend, since I thought the water droplets added to their charisma.

I read they called these guys "parsley worms" - and my parsley is pretty overgrown so they should be in caterpillar paradise at the moment.

I found this lovely little friend on my parsley plant in my garden this morning. Image search tells me it's a caterpillar for a Black Swallowtail butterfly and not that nasty little moth that eats all my tomatoes, so I guess that section of the plant belongs to it now until it becomes a butterfly🦋
