4 out of 12 families already covered!
I said we were done asking for rent money. But today I heard the horrifying fact that there are zero family shelter beds in the entire state of Minnesota. So we are going to try something new.

We are going to do peer to peer funding. You take on urgent‼️ funding for one family. You send to them.

journalists are workers who deserve to be paid fairly for our labor and I think that far too few consumers of media recognize or even care about this fact

My time with The Washington Post is up. I was laid off with hundreds of folks I am so honored to call my colleagues.

I covered it all at The Post (really), so now I'm looking for my next adventure.

ICE already up to their terror in the exurbs this morning while Homan says they're drawing down.
February 4, 2026 at 2:31 PM
Ooh this means it’s working
Homan to Minneapolis residents who are setting up ICE roadblocks: "What are you doing? Do you really think you're gonna stop ICE and CBP from doing their job? It's a joke. Stop.

It’s day 64 of the ICE occupation of MSP.

Today ICE officers once again arrested observers at gunpoint, caused lockdowns of neighborhood schools, and harassed people on the street simply for their skin color.

Nothing has changed, despite the rhetoric from “leaders.”

Full on concentration camps. "We don't know half of what's going on in the camps, but we know enough" is echoing from 85 years ago.
Kelly Vargas writes about what happened to her, her husband, and their 6yo daughter in the family camp in Texas.

Filth, illness, medical abuse—her child has lasting complications from being injured by a staff member.

We don't know the half of what's happening in the camps, but we know enough.
My Daughter Lived the Liam Ramos Nightmare. It Turned Out Worse for Us.
The constant threats took a toll on my health. My daughter’s health deteriorated even faster.

I think people often wonder this, and it's a great question, so let me explain the advantages of 3D printing whistles. There are many.

The 3D printing effort started from one of our organizers who started by sourcing mass-produced whistles.
I mean, are they really cheaper or easier to produce than just sourcing the right thing from a mass distributor? it's sweet but doesn't seem Pareto efficient, and I feel like that's important to the revolution

I am seeing it on a local level with neighbors who are reaching out and saying, "what can we do." People organizing rent and groceries and child pick up.

I am seeing it on a level I have never seen before: people seeing what we are up against and choosing to care for those around them.

I have seen people in our little group hear that someone an hour from them witnessed someone in their neighborhood get kidnapped and get their coat on and drive to have whistles in their hands within hours after they send the email.

I love sending out 100 whistles to someone who is like "hey I don't know what to do, I'm gonna start here and hand these out to my neighbors" because the whistles become not just communication, not just anti-ICE, but a pro-community building catalyst.

Okay I’ll talk to the neighborhood bar about putting this on the books. If you have a space or you’d like to book a space and collab, just DM me. I’d love if you could manage some of the event + distribution planning and recruit a friend or two to help with day-of coordination.
I’ve been starting to hear more interest in whistles in Chicago again. Would anyone want to do a whistle packing event or distribute the products of an event?

Remember the incident where DHS claimed officers shot a guy because he attacked them with a snow shovel?

Yeah. It didn't happen. They shot him through the door of his own home. And then arrested him. And then lied about it. Again.

And they almost shot some kids in the process.
They just blindly shot through the fucking door.

"Additional photographs show damage consistent with a bullet fragment lodged in a bedroom wall down the hallway — suggesting it traveled between a mattress and a portable crib in a room where several small children sleep."
"Photographic evidence from the shooting scene of a Venezuelan man by federal agents last month in Minneapolis supports the account of witnesses there – and appears to undercut the narrative provided by federal officials." www.startribune.com/ice-raids-mi...

So TL;DR, it costs us 1.5 cents per 3D printed whistle (approximately) in filament and electric costs, compared to about 6 for drop shipping; we're more nimble with a distributed network, and also, they can't just seize our whistles off the ship and stop the whole thing; and we pay less in shipping.

Remember how I said we had plans to try to reduce Amazon wishlist dependence for our whistle printers?

We'd love to get enough polymaker gift cards so we can do a bulk buy directly from the manufacturer and get a stack of filament for an entire urban area.
