ICE/CBP seem to be trying it everywhere at once right now. I hope everyone hollers at them real good

I would also add:

Make friends with the local Spanish language churches being targeted and ask them what they need. It may be someone to sit in the back to block the door by arguing with ice until people have time to escape from the front. It may be just walking with them in solidarity.
If I can give 3 pieces of unsolicited advice to people facing ICE/CBP:
1) go outside
2) meet your neighbors
3) be loud

They want you to be isolated and afraid so they can work in secret, control the narrative, and act with impunity. They lose power when we see what’s happening and to whom.

Feeling a little burnt out but anger’s giving me a second wind. I still have about a thousand whistles that I can get into someone’s hands, in Chicago or another city

We’re going to have my 18-year-old nephew in town by himself over Thanksgiving. Trying to figure out how to show him a good time. Thinking about hosting a little game night maybe on Thanksgiving or on Friday

Cousin drama update: she actually intended to put this fully on blast and, per his mom, he made her take it down
I caught my cousin’s wife announcing their separation via an Instagram reel, which she must’ve eventually realized was not a friends-only story because it’s no longer posted

I just learned about another group in my neighborhood that has distributed over 55,000 whistles. I think I’m somewhere around 35-40,000. I wonder how many whistles have hit the streets citywide since September.

But let's keep giving CPD more money! I wish these settlements were paid out of the CPD budget and pension funds. Then maybe there would be some accountability
BREAKING: The City Council voted unanimously to pay $17M to a man who spent 27 years in prison after he was convicted of a double murder he did not commit, bringing the total cost of settling 9 lawsuits naming disgraced former CPD Detective Reynaldo Guevara to $112M, records show. @wttw.bsky.social

The Sun-Times has been doing great work too. I've also been absolutely wowed by local coverage from Block Club, the Triibe, unraveled and WTTW (PBS), all of whom are doing a ton of original investigative work.

Just because Bovino and his goons ran away from the winter (or from accountability in the courts) doesn't mean we are out of the woods. Stop by Nighthawk again on this lovely November evening for another night of whistle packing.

Today’s state violence and copaganda out of Broadview show that we can’t expect material conditions to improve much with the removal of CBP from the city.

If you’re also mad, come make and distribute some whistle kits about it

broadview mayor katrina thompson blames today’s brutality on “out-of-town protesters” who’ve “chosen their fists” over their voices.

does this look like cops “protecting [protesters’] free speech”?

Broadview's mayor keeps calling the protesters "out of towners." Every time we are there, we talk to people from the town on the front lines.

(Also this is a tiny town y'all, it's reasonable for someone in like...Brookfield or Melrose Park to feel like this is their community as well!)
