Huge respect to the papers for finding both an 88 year old worried about the tax bill on her 6 bedroom Kensington house and a 20 year old fretting about only being able to save £12k a year tax free.
Top work all around. These are not easy case studies to find.

The more I think about the two child limit the crosser I get, and the more pleased that they ditched it. No one decides their family size this way.* Making ordinary people think that this is how other people act is incredibly divisive.

*Otherwise we could easily solve the fertility crisis, right?

A big part of this, I think, and Labour's general failing is caring about the first 15% of people who were going Reform, not the second 15%.

Should have boxed them into being a crank party.
It is genuinely mortifying how the only people I see pointing Reform's links to Russia out are /not/ Labour.
Stop Ukraine joining NATO?

This thread collating the Sheffield Tribune’s brilliant investigation into the spivvy lawyer threatening Yorkshire leaseholders into handing over cash is worth reading before the story goes national.
Excellent and courageous investigative journalism.
The fact that it is (apparently) legal to do this to people is utterly disgusting.
“It broke my heart, that was my savings towards a new car,” one woman who paid Milne tens of thousands of pounds told us. “He has just wiped me out.”

Who is Andrew Milne - the solicitor sending "very aggressive" letters to Sheffield homeowners?

Clear as day now. Not a single UK government department, local authority or institution should be still on X by the end of the week
Vital piece of investigative reporting from Sky. They've uncovered the X algorithm which feeds users extremist right wing material from the moment they join the site. It is a far-right radicalisation engine, by design.

The BBC has consistently platformed Matt Goodwin because of his racist views and the veneer of respectability brought by his past life as an academic.
Extract from more recent Goodwin post. He really should never be allowed on the BBC - or any other reputable broadcaster - again.

A reminder there could always be a hidden Saxon church inside your house
✨Deerhurst, Gloucestershire. A kitchen in the nave and a bedroom in the chancel hid within plain sight an Anglo-Saxon chapel built by Earl Odda (a relation to Edward the Confessor). Re-discovered in 1865, it is the most complete surviving Saxon church in England. #thread

To be absolutely clear, it is impossible to vote for a party that cannot bring itself to unequivocally defend the rights of people living and working legally in this country. Because arbitrary removal of legal rights, or sudden varying of terms, for some is ultimately a threat to everyone.

However it is dressed up, a project to remove thousands of people who came to this country according to rules set by our government should be repudiated for what it is; faintly disguised racism; a poor attempt to apply a genteel face to it, but it is racism and ingratitude all the same.

The Opposition and the party that’s leading in the polls literally have policies more extreme than the BNP 20 years ago
David is slightly unfair. There is a clear difference here.

Conservatives and Reform plan to forcibly expel large numbers of people who are legal, permanent residents of migrant origin. The BNP proposal is voluntary.
This below is from the 2005 BNP manifesto.

Spot the difference with current Tory and Reform policy.
