NOVEMBER ✨BOOK CLUB✨
📚 The Lilac People by MiloTodd
📚 One Dark Window by RachelGillig
Writing is so strange. You sit alone inventing people and somehow discover more about yourself in the process. It's a playground for introspection.

CAUTION: there's a chance that tiny throwaway plot twist you added for fun becomes the entire emotional core of your book, and now you're rewriting 40k words to make it make sense.
CAUTION: There's a chance that small side character you just created becomes way more important to the story than you had originally planned because you keep daydreaming cool things about them, and you end up liking them too much

I'm doing the ADHD reader thing where I try to read 4 books at once. Is it a sign of dysregulation or is my TBR pile staging a coup?

Reading feels sacred in autumn. The air cools, the earth softens, and the smallest story becomes a comfort. Books and blankets were made for this season 🍂

I tried waking up early to write today. Turns out my muses don't clock in until 10AM.

Me: rage crying after therapy because someone integral in my life is being a butthead.

Me later: 😭😠😐🤔🤓✍️
Oh, all this pain? Just put it in the book!

Me earlier: The person I think is so stinking neat has never bothered to message me first in 20+ years. I'm so sad for me right now.

Me hours later:
😐😠😒🤔😀🤓✍️
Chapter 1...
(it's ALL fodder!)

I heard someone say that a book with 5k reviews was a rare find. Social media numbers have become harder to contextualize. One thousand doesn't look like a lot on paper, but you put those same people in a room and it's staggering!

Writing can feel daunting right up until it doesn't. Getting down one good sentence can make you believe in yourself again. Every draft I chase that moment.

When Is a Horror Book a Thriller? When a Woman Writes It
There's a thin line between horror and thriller, but why does one gender seem to always be categorized one way?

Between Two Fires is equal parts brutal and beautiful. It reads like folklore mixed with scripture, using parable-like encounters to explore themes of sin and redemption. It’s grim, captivating, and kept me thinking well past the last page. Easily my fav read this year.

I asked my brother to borrow a banned #book through his library for me and found out he's NEVER had a library card. He's in his mid-thirties...

He's getting one to help me and, somewhere, a librarian got her wings 🧚🏼‍♀️

Me: Even as a kid, I wondered why Hogwarts students didn't die more. They let kids carry and train with the equivalent of guns. Also, you're telling me a school with moving staircases doesn't have daily instances of accidental murder?
Interviewer: I meant questions about the job...

I was able to predict a significant call back in a show my husband and I were watching last night. He said, "How'd you know that would happen?" I shrugged and said, "It's good writing..." Then, after a beat, we both said in unison, "Or it's the ADHD."

Media pushes the idea that to be a strong female character she must be masculine. There are things about womanhood that are feminine AND strong. Give her flaws that move the story. Give her strengths that celebrate her identity.

Local Missing Woman builds tension through its shifting timelines and distinct perspectives. The twists were genuinely satisfying. I'll admit I got impatient at times, but that's probably a me problem instead of a pacing issue. Kubica makes you earn every reveal.

I do small things as a reader to put my dollars and attention where it matters. I started using StoryGraph instead of Goodreads. I order from ThriftBooks instead of Amazon and I only use my kindle to read library #books. It isn't much, but it helps me sleep at night 🤷🏽‍♀️
