NOVEMBER ✨BOOK CLUB✨
📚 The Lilac People by MiloTodd
📚 One Dark Window by RachelGillig
✨BOOK CLUB✨

I wanted to love The Lilac People more than I did. The main character's constant anguish made it hard to connect, especially besides Karl's tragic but quieter grief. The LGBTQ+ history along side well-timed suspense gave the story depth beyond its flaws.

Between Two Fires is equal parts brutal and beautiful. It reads like folklore mixed with scripture, using parable-like encounters to explore themes of sin and redemption. It’s grim, captivating, and kept me thinking well past the last page. Easily my fav read this year.

Local Missing Woman builds tension through its shifting timelines and distinct perspectives. The twists were genuinely satisfying. I'll admit I got impatient at times, but that's probably a me problem instead of a pacing issue. Kubica makes you earn every reveal.

Forty women are trapped underground, then suddenly freed into a desolate world. The story is spare & haunting, with a dream-like quality. The ending leaves you with more silence than answers, as you reflect on the grief for lost connection and our need to belong.

Oliver enjoys the nesting stage of pregnancy. He either believes every new piece of baby gear is his or he's excellent at quality control.

As readers, one of the most powerful ways we can commemorate #Juneteenth is by reading stories that center Black joy, history, heartbreak, and hope.

Here's my list of #books that I feel encapsulates these themes.

Let’s continue to amplify Black stories—not just today, but every day 🖤
