There's something very funny about the fact that before I rescued them said I never wanted sled dogs because of the noise they make and the one morning they don't sing I'm paranoid about what's wrong.

Normally my alarm is Ham and Honey singing (and Pepper trying to join in with her horrifying dingo yodel), but this morning it was just Honey making noise with her alarm bark. She appears physically fine, it doesn't look like anything is wrong in the house, but she's frantic.

I am...unsettled.

"All of this, food bloggers say, erodes the simple promise of a recipe: that someone has actually cooked it before you have."
NEW: AI “recipe slop” is overrunning search and social. Food creators say Google’s AI Overviews and glossy fake food pics are drowning out real, tested recipes — collapsing traffic and setting home cooks up for disaster, especially this Thanksgiving.

The squash were ejected from the microwave and shot across the dining room to explode against the wall by the hutch.

The entire dining room was covered in watery, hot squash goo. Including me.

She'd forgotten to pierce the squash and they turned into gourd missiles.

I heard the microwave make a weird noise. I turned to look at it, and on some bit of instinct born of pure survival, I dropped to the floor as the microwave door flew open and two hot butternut squash flew at me like they were shot out of a gourd howitzer. +

My Momma wanted to make squash to add to some dish. She'd read about softening it in the microwave, so she put two butternut squash in there, cranked it, and set it working.

I was coming out of the back of the house, passing in front of the kitchen where it opened into the dining room. +

This speaks to my post yesterday that it's not entirely good that our art is so divorced from both anything physical and from the places we live and the people we know..

The small town kid in me who read everything good at the library rejoices, but I think some connections need to be reforged too.
Our relationship to owning art (be it film, literature, TV, etc) is so screwed right now. There are the "pirating everything is a moral good actually" crowd. Then there are corporations willing to let you pretend you own things digitally while they're really only renting them to you.

"I've talked to you about this," I said, and cracked ice off my gloves. Plunging my hand into the creek had coated them with clear, cold water that had frozen immediately on contact with the air. "Several times."

The naiad grinned at me and flicked her tail. My necklace gleamed around her waist.
It's not until you've bundled inside, stomped ice from boots and burned lips on hot chocolate, that you realize you lost your necklace out there in the drifts. You suit back up, search in the waning light, but the necklace remains lost. What do you find instead?

NEWS --> BBC confirms to me that they did edit a line out of historian @rutgerbregman.com's speech. It called Trump "the most openly corrupt president in US history."

BBC also confirms this was done on the advice of lawyers. So Trump's threats worked.

Things New Yorkers have tried to convince me they invented in no particular order:

Corner stores
Taking winter clothes off indoors
Multilingual neighborhoods
Street food
Sitting in front of where you live and talking to your neighbors
Public transit

And how do you print this fact here without immediately calling attention to his opposition to hormones for trans ppl?

We can SEE HIM. Photography exists. You can't just invent a description of a person whole cloth.

This man looks like a microwaved testicle. That has nothing to do with how evil he is, BUT HE DOES.

This list thinks that Ace Ventura, Pet Detective is funnier than Blazing Saddles. There are very few matters of taste that I can say are absolutely definitely definitively wrong, but that is one of them.
The movie listed at #1 is so incredibly misplaced that it calls into question the veracity of the entire list. It belongs on the list, yes, but SO MUCH further down. An absolute, credibility-wrecking flub. Boo, @variety.com! Boo!
