Part adjunct, part self-employed, entirely neurodivergent. She/her in STEM, i.e., had pronouns before people got offended by them. Can't believe it's controversial to not want SARS. Also plays with string 🧶

Hey new followers, I recognize a few of you from Bird Hell Site (detector webapp came online or got noticed?) so I assume y'all know this, but so the rest of you know what's in the tin:

* quite autistic
* numbers are fun
* yarn yarn yarn
* cute lizard is cute
* fuck Nazi bullshit
The good news is now I have envelopes (bc have to mail a thing) but the bad news is I have toooooo many envelopes bc the 250 pack is what I could get. Considering yard sale.

Hypothesis: this is also the impulse behind throwing bread for birds (yes I know other foods are healthier, but that's orthogonal to the existence of the motivation)
Permit me a little maudlin gushing. I can’t tell you how good for the soul caring for animals is for me. The animals in question don’t even have to like me or acknowledge me, but spending time feeding and caring about something matters.

I remember when this would've been enough to start a theory that the CEO of Starbucks is the Antichrist.
Reminder that Starbucks’ CEO made 6,666x more than the company's median employee in 2024.

This was the widest CEO-to-Worker pay gap in the entire S&P 500.

And we're supposed to believe Starbucks can't afford to bargain a fair contract with its unionized workers?
As of this morning, Starbucks workers across the country are officially ON STRIKE. And we're prepared for this to become the biggest and longest ULP strike in Starbucks history.

Say #NoContractNoCoffee with us: DON'T BUY STARBUCKS for the duration of our open-ended ULP strike! $SBUX

Someone please tell that couch fucker that ibuprofen is important to this government bc it keeps me, the product of a second amendment kind of family of origin, from working my way toward "nothing to lose" amounts of pain.

Don't just think about the price. Consider how much you'll love wearing the garment, which will be about finding a manufacturer that produces things to your taste. A $100 hoodie worn for a decade is cheaper than a $40 hoodie you replace in a year.

As usual, the key is to buy less, buy better.

Is "airborne AIDS" accurate? Not strictly speaking, though TBF definitions in the immunefuckery space are going to need to be considered in light of conditions on the ground.

Will you go less wrong by having that level of badness in your risk model? Probably.
Or in the case of COVID, the NYT told the horrible truth early on but, along with the rest of the media, downshifted to the more soothing “it’s mild/like a cold” narrative for the return to “normal” in 2021/22. From June 2020:

STARBUCKS BOYCOTT STARTS TOMORROW

Pass the word!
In case people forget. You should be boycotting Starbucks. Tomorrow starts their strike. Going to Starbucks is crossing picketing lines.

Be a better person and don’t go to Starbucks ✌🏼 it’s not that hard

spoke with the executive director of my local food bank today and got this really incredible line: "if you donate 1 can of green beans, we can give away 1 can of green beans. but if you donate a dollar, we can give away 6 cans of green beans"

The difference between "store brand teabag in water from the fountain" and "cold brew vanilla chai" is branding and attitude.

What's good in task tracker apps? WaterDo is broken and I have too many plates spinning to wait around hoping they fix it.

I'm old enough to remember when "pulling oneself up by one's bootstraps" was understood as a physical impossibility.
Casual reminder that the myth of “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” is a cruel hoax designed to convince poor people from all walks of life that the injustices they face are a result of their own actions, rather than an oppressive system rigged against them.

We need bread and doctors more than we need an additional type of cops, even if they weren't being oppressive.
The monthly SNAP benefit is around $177 a month

The average ACA benefit can be up to $550 a month

These are small numbers compared to the billion dollar tax cuts given to corporations

The $40 billion to Argentina or $45 billion for ICE

They’re life saving programs & Dems must hold the line

No, that's a cock-up. A caucus is a type of desert plant.
The caucus meeting was just to orchestrate who would fall on the sword but not be up for a vote in 2026.
so currently defectors are:

Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)
CCM (2028)
Rosen (2030)
King (2030)

With a side of "your Nazi bullshit DID NOT EVEN WORK" for all involved in that plan.
It was utterly morally bankrupt to use waves of infection to induce immunity in the population.

Morally. Bankrupt.

First place my mind went, too: how often do you need to buy shoes *again*, for them to be consistently fit for purpose?
how's the quality of the shoes btw
OK Wil’s point simplified. An e.g.

Back in the day a pair of shoes would cost a week’s wages. Let’s call it $1000

Today shoes are cheaper approx $100.

So today you could buy 10 pairs of shoes for a week’s wages.

Someone who can afford 10 pairs of shoes is richer than someone who can afford one.

Any of you who have money on a SNAP card, go clean it out on canned/frozen/pantry food THIS WEEKEND. Maybe it won't matter but you won't know until after, which might look like an empty card without any food.

Everyone else, pass the word!
