Agreed. It's been a long, long time since I read the book, but I had appreciated that emotional core and that it was never overshadowed by Elphaba's affair with Fiyero, which certainly did NOT read like a fairy tale/happily ever after love story.

Exactly! I make food I like, but I don't believe anyone else is obligated to eat it and I extend them the same courtesy. We can share what's mutually enjoyed and avoid what isn't.
