Can't remember if it was this bad before COVID but I'm seeing an alarming spreading of what I'll call Airport Behavior to other public places. Obliviousness to other people's existence, ineptitude at navigating the environment. "Is this your first time at the grocery store" type stuff

I am really sorry to be the one to tell you this (no I'm not) but getting really mad on social media about how bad the orange man is does literally nothing to actually fucking fight the authoritarian takeover of our government, and *does* sap your energy for things that will actually fucking help.

I just want everyone to have the experience of living in dignity with access to sufficient food, safe housing, needed medical care, high quality education, and time to engage with what sparks their curiosity and spirit

this should not be controversial 🫠

Was gonna say I think we need the Disney adults on board
Heard from a friend at Disney+ that there are multiple levels of freakout internally, both from internal dissatisfaction, concerns about subscription cancelations, and of course the big one: concern about a boycott spilling over into parks and cruises.

A producer told me once she has to warn young crewmembers to avoid being alone with Aykroyd. "Not because he's a creep, he's a gentleman. But if you let him strike up a conversation the next thing we know all the PAs will be huddled in his dressing room learning how humans evolved from dolphins."
I love Dan Aykroyd because he has very clearly entered the stage in his life where he is going to make sure everyone knows about his special interests and he has the profile and resources to do it in a high profile manner. You are GOING to hear about rocks, dinosaurs, vodka, and ghosts dammit.

Why isn’t the headline “Trump officials plan to lie about links between the coronavirus vaccine and the deaths of 25 children”? That’s literally what they’re doing. You can report it. Hacks.

y’all we have GOT to take care of one another. community is all we’ve got and it’s way more powerful than fascism, but it’s an active verb* and we have to participate.

* i am aware that community is a noun

Two ways to make the world less fascist today:

1) Use a public library to keep them funded & knowledge accessible. Libby for audio & ebooks, Kanopy for streaming!

2) Wear an n95 in public to reduce community illness, improve accessibility for disability communities, & resist eugenics! Free masks:

Covid no longer kills you in two weeks, unfortunately it does damage your brain, arteries, and immune system. Puts you at risk for stroke, heart attack , an aggressive cancers. It literally is the perfect predator because most of humanity thinks it is just a cold now.

Acts of meaningful resistance:

1) Wear an n95 style mask in public to reduce community illness while fascists destroy healthcare

2) Form & support unions while fascists destroy workers rights

3) Give $ to targeted groups (trans folks, immigrants, &c) while fascists deplete their resources

do you ever stare at the ceiling and think about how the worldwide scientific establishment did the impossible and created a COVID vaccine in under a year and the response of the general public has been to go on an unstoppable rampage to destroy science and scientists

This is delightful and brings back fond memories of my ice cream scooping days😋💪
When I taught undergrads, I encouraged them to make announcements at the start of class about things they wanted to promote, and I just remembered a kid who would always announce what the flavor of the day was at the ice cream shop where he worked.

I love a kid who enthusiastically participates.

I haven't been a regular late-night viewer in forever. But as a kid, the genre was the biggest influence in shaping my news sense.

Killing the Late Show franchise to lick Trump's boots marks a dark new chapter for the culture at large: the art we consume, watch, read. We should all be disturbed.
Colbert's cancellation is a dark warning
CBS's decision marks a dangerous new stage for the culture at large.

A stranger asked me why I’m in a mask. He sounded curious instead of condescending, so I answered, “It’s part of my antifascist practice.”

He wanted to know more, seemed excited about the local mask bloc, took the n95 I offered, & wore it into the shop I’d just left.

Don’t stop educating folks.

If you found out that when govt gave you the freedom to make your own choices they hid the truth compromising those choices, putting you & your family in danger every day, is still lying so you sacrifice your health & your kids’ future for their financial gain & power, would you start masking again?

"As concentration camps become more common, they will offend fewer people — and they will be called normal."

That line haunts me because too many things that would have offended everyone just a few years ago are now part of the daily news & ignored.

THIS.👇 Whenever I tell people who ask why I still mask, that Covid causes vascular, respiratory, immune system damage, over 100 ailments including brain damage, they say “if that was true, public health and the news would be telling us.” I tell them why they’re not, they tell me I need therapy.
I still take covid seriously, but I it’s taken *work* for me to hold on to the truth of covid in the face of relentless official messaging that minimizes the risks or provides straight up wrong info. I often feel like a conspiracy theorist when I explain to others why the CDC covid guidance is bad.
