"Just write for yourself" is absolute BS to me because the writing is not complete until someone else reads it.

now that the devil wears prada 2 is coming soon, i think it’s time for me to admit that i never saw the first one. the thing is, i read the book and just thought it was okay. kind of blurred together with confessions of a shopaholic tbh. mid-tier chick lit, perfectly fine but not exciting.

some writers genuinely only enjoy having written, but most of us genuinely love writing! the work is the point! it’s satisfying and even fun! i feel the most like myself when i am writing about a little guy i made up!
Sometimes I wonder if our many years of jokes about writers hating writing and doing anything but writing, etc, have convinced people that the writing part is the hurdle and the goal is just to have a thing in hand. But I am here to tell you: the writing is the best part. The act is the thing.
