i know it's trite but: most science fiction is not trying to predict the future.
i keep seeing people stumbling over this. "well, it wouldn't be plausible to have--" okay but maybe the author wasn't trying for "plausible." usually they aren't.

corollary: maybe the whole infrastructure and architecture of how we structure, manage and deliver learning across the whole education system is not especially geared towards supporting many learners and we could do better generally
“But then everyone will want a specific accommodation to make their learning easier!” Yeah man, maybe how you learn is an extremely individual thing and dedicating resources to personalizing the process as much as possible is a good use of university money, idk
The more I think about this, the more I don't understand why it's important to discourage people from "taking advantage of accommodations" when they're non-disabled, except insofar as there's some underlying commitment that accommodations are scarce, special stuff, uptake of which depletes the pot

Is the New Fan who will spontaneously combust if they don’t immediately know the forty years of context behind the villain of the week in the room with us now. Because I remember being 12 years old and thinking “oh yeah that’s probably a classic who thing” and either looking it up or moving on
dr who fans and writers everywhere are so worried about a hypothetical “new fan” being confused about anything ever, seemingly forgetting that basically none of us got into this from first principles and in fact the confusion and discovery is *why we got into it*
