My Stop the Presses newsletter calls for a dramatic change of tactics by major media to produce "radically truthful” news that defeats the right-wing disinformation industry. Right now, the media are getting slam-dunked by fascist liars. Here’s a thread with my 10 main points. 🧵🧵🧵
How to build a radically truthful news outlet
The old ways don’t work. Time to declare war on the liars.

I loved this. And I want to note the whole “there were no autistic people before …” discourse has an answer here: just the people were sent away in the incarceration (yes “care homes” like this), and if they fled, they were just abandoned by society, usually to die.

See also the upper rungs of the legal profession and the tech world. People literally get offended if you suggest that there's a difference between what's good for their career and what's morally permissible, and that sometimes the two are mutually exclusive.

There are going to be prominent Democrats and mainstream media voices who insist that we have to "turn the page" and "forgive and forget" and they should all be roundly ignored, if not mercilessly mocked.
It’s crazy to think about the crimes we’re going to learn about after this regime ends.

We’re already hearing about Watergate level crimes every week. Imagine what will come out after it’s over.

We’re going to need a full accounting of all that’s been done in violation of the constitution.

centrists will tell you to your face that we all need to abandon identity issues, and focus on kitchen table issues instead and yet when a leftist candidate runs a generational campaign based on kitchen table issues, it's the centrists weaponizing identity politics to smear the leftist.

Truly, his politics are a mystery and we will never learn the secrets that motivated this lone wolf killer with absolutely no connections to anyone else, certainly not in politics.

Now, who wants to talk about improving mental health? No, not by funding programs, silly. Just talk about it. Again.

There are admirable conservatives, but they're not the conservatives these guys want us to admire. The basic feature of the American right in our Trumpist moment is a bunch of unadmirable guys who don't understand what it takes to be admirable, and so instead demand all of us admire them.
More than anything, they want to be patted on the head and told they're a good boy by the liberal elites

i would again like to remind everyone that NEGATING A FRAME REINFORCES IT

"he's not really targeting criminals" makes it an argument about criminality

"this is a fascist attack" states what is actually happening

This is very good and reminds me of a point I always make when people say you can’t shame people out of being bigots. You can’t, but you can make them behave better by not creating a culture of permissiveness when they do

Look, I know that D.C. Democrats are skittish about institutional reforms, but they should absolutely do this.

These changes are badly needed but, more important, they'd likely appeal to voters who have proven with Trump that they'll give *anyone* who promises to shake things up a chance.
Rather than being protectors of the status quo (as they run in 2024), democrats should be the party of "our institutions are broken and here's a set of reforms we propose: multi-member districts/PR, congress expansion, term limits for judges...."
A new House map proposed by the Texas GOP would take 5 seats away from Democrats.

Remind me, how is this not just cheating?
