I do think that a possibly underrated dynamic in The Horrors is that the Right as it has reconstituted itself under Trump legitimately can’t understand sincere moral or physical courage

actually communicating “I’m here and I’m working for you and here’s how” is an aspect of governing that’s neglected by far too many people who think the work speaks for itself (or, frankly, don’t have the communication chops Zohran does)

this is how you combat the forces that want to make you fail

One thing that irks me: people keep calling the folks on the streets in Minneapolis protestors. They are not generally there to protest, they are there to observe and document. This is the product of organizing and mutual aid. It is telling that these acts of citizenship are seen as protest!

Alex Pretti "used to tell people off when they made sexist comments to female physicians. He bought me coffee when I had a really bad day as an intern...I laughed alongside him daily. He made a point to teach medical residents without judgement, but with a smile on his face and a joke."

And he didn’t. He tried to help a woman who’d just been assaulted. There was nothing rash, stupid, or radical about what he did. He showed kindness. And they killed him for it.

Imagine how much they’d be lying about what happened without all the videos showing it from multiple angles.

I no longer derive any joy from being right while the old folks and kids shot themself in the foot in 2024.

I’m only able to think about what’s next. What can we do from here?

Ben Luhmann, who filmed this, is one of the two high schoolers from a conservative Christian family I rode along with in Chicago when they were searching for ICE agents there.

When I asked him how his faith informed his efforts to document ICE/DHS, he told me this. religionnews.com/2025/11/25/h...

If you can’t even be bothered with symbolic gestures, you certainly won’t be able to do the work that would actually be needed for the US to be in good standing again
Fully agree with Burrowcat here, and I think the whole "impeachment is pointless without removal" is both wrong and throwing in the towel. There's a message to be sent both to voters and to the world on impeachment, and Democrats should absolutely be beating the lawlessness drum non-stop.

Even after Trump is gone, the world will remember that he threatened to forcibly seize the territory of a peaceful democratic ally, and our institutions failed to immediately remove him. That makes US dangerously unreliable, not just one senile gangster.
His not being impeached by the end of the business day as a result of this threat is as much a problem as the threat itself. It’s not just Trump that the world has to worry about, it’s a GOP that supports him and Democrats who suck their thumbs and refuse to even discuss pushing to remove him

I’ve always felt this way, but this last week, watching the federal government invade my city, watching my neighbors resist it, watching congressional Dems essentially pretend it’s not happening - I have never so keenly felt that Democrats in Congress are profoundly useless and irrelevant
All I want to do is fight this insanity, there are so many people like me, and it feels like most of the actual elected leaders who are supposed to be channeling this desire to resist are sitting on my head scolding me. PUT US IN THE GAME

Unrelated ag fact: there are stingless Melipona bees that make honey!

Sometimes people think "I should raise those! Why do we even bother with honeybees, if we can just raise bees that don't sting?"

Then they try raising the stingless bees, & find out why almost nobody does that
They don't have capacity to terrorize more than 2-3 cities at a time.

Which means they rotate teams to new cities without relief.

Which means consistent resistance by fresh activists in each new city will break them over time.

Which means if you're city's not occupied, rest up and get ready.
