Former policy wonk
Canadian foreign policy establishment is addicted to issuing the worst, blandest, most nothing statements. Everything is drained of all meaning and heft. No wonder we’re seen as an easy target.
Careful silence when the US started killing people in international waters. Careful silence when a Canadian ICC justice was sanctioned by the US. Now we mumble vague things about international law and Venezuela. We’re losing more than just our voice.

This video is a glaring example of the Putinization of America
Reminds me of those scenes on the streets of Moscow, after Putin's attack on Ukraine. Only in this one, there isn't even a crowd... If standing alone on a pavement voicing an opinion is now "obstruction" worthy of arrest, the US is in far deeper trouble than I thought possible. RIP #FirstAmendment.

America crossed many Rubicons by attacking Venezuela on Jan. 3, 2026

We are now a rogue nation. Any rules-based global order is dead. Trump is a dictator, without Congress, public approval or legal restrain. And an axis of evil is carving up the globe

Trump's illegal war on Venezuela cemented his claim to dictatorship and marked the U.S. as a global pariah.

A statement like this coming from a NATO ally that doesn’t result in any kind of immediate change in the U.S. crosses a line that can’t be uncrossed. We all see what Trump is, but the fact that his party, the Supreme Court, the military, and the media all fail to stand up to him is unforgivable.
It's wild that the PM of a NATO member feels compelled to put out a statement like this vis-à-vis the US government.

💯 Worth noting, as well, that just because Maduro was himself an "undesirable" does not justify breaching the UN Charter. If we are to have the rule of law, it must apply everywhere equally - just like due process applies to criminals, not just to the innocent.

This is a dangerous and irresponsible response.

Cheering the illegal abduction of a foreign head of state and celebrating U.S. control over another country is wrong.

Canada cannot pick & choose when international law applies. If the rules only matter when it’s convenient, they don’t protect anyone

This is what a Presidential candidate and party leader should post
They are putting Americans’ safety in danger while destabilizing the region to enrich themselves.

Congress must act, and Trump must be impeached.

New generational quagmire just dropped
Trump: "We're going to have our very large United States oil companies go in, spend billions of dollars, fix the badly broken infrastructure and start making money for the country. And we are ready to stage a second and much larger attack if we need to do so."

Back in 2016, I interviewed @markfallon.bsky.social, who predicted (based on his experiences at Guantanamo) that without fully documenting and punishing war-on-terror abuses, the US under Obama had only managed to hit pause on some of its atrocities and was destined to continue as a rogue state.

There’s an epidemic of people using Grok to do sexual violence to women on Twitter.

Yet Canadian politicians, media etc have failed to adopt another platform en masse, making it near-impossible to fully disengage and be tapped in to vital conversations and information.

What are we doing.

It would be a nice move for @mark-carney.bsky.social to remove all ministers and government depts and agencies from X
This does seem just a little bit bad! Idk the sort of thing you’d think politicians might distance themselves from or something!
