He can’t cancel elections. Much as he might want to, it’s just not possible. And I don’t even think Dems should try to impeach him; it would only give Republicans something to rally around. Better to make him serve his full term, watch the GOP tear itself apart, and MAGA die a well-earned death.

Agreed. It sucks.

Far more competent people than Trump et al started the Iraq War and they did it by going through the UNSC and trying to get allies onboard and it was still a disaster because wars like that are always disasters. Now Trump is just gonna Leroy Jenkins! a war on Venezuela and thinks it’ll go well?

What would be extra useful would be some signal that he has the humility to understand why they should have been met with and listened to in person far further in advance.

Some ponies only have one trick. Ryan Reynolds figured that out.

Anyone in a policy-making position in Ottawa who subscribes to a view that the US remains a normal ally and that Trump is a normal politician who responds to normal incentives should be put on permanent ATIP duty. Inexcusable idiocy.

There will undoubtedly be Peggy Noonans who will say “Sometimes in life you want to keep walking… Some of life has to be mysterious” to excuse not prosecuting MAGA crimes, and they should be berated and mocked and shunned from public life

Chris Van Hollen is the conscience of the Senate Democrats

Like yeah, I’m sure he’s a smart guy and accomplished at lot as a finance dude, but governing is a different beast that requires a similar, but very distinct, skillset.

Hodgson is a former CEO. CEOs are used to deference. That’s exactly the wrong kind of person to be leading negotiations with First Nations about pipelines.

How appropriate that that’s where the term “beyond the pale” comes from. Stephen Miller is the living embodiment of it.

Titans of industry used to build things. Railroads, steel industry, whatever. Now they’re either building their own casinos (hedge funds) or tweaking existing shit that no one is asking for. “What if your ring was your wallet?” What if my wallet was my wallet? What problem is he solving here?

Birds of a feather

Politically, I’m betting he’s more willing to lose progressive support to the NDP than soft-right support to the CPC
November 28, 2025 at 2:31 PM
And it just opens up a lane for a different far-right demagogue to take advantage of that new version of existing anger. Easy for a Tucker Carlson to weave some lies about immigrants and brown people to explain it all.

It’s almost worse if Americans believe Trump’s BS claims about the economy because it’ll only supercharge resentment. If you believe that prices are falling overall, it would be pretty enraging to see that your own bills keep rising. “Food prices are down but my groceries are more expensive? WTF?”
