My wife got a picture of the band for our production of Measure for Measure before the show started, when we were just messing around. That’s me on the right on bass.

The cost of time for transit in (some) metro areas is only because we built every damn thing to prioritize cars over transit, not because of some innate, natural law.
I am super-pro-public transit, and use it way more than the average American, but I live near a light rail station with very, very stable and predictable scheduling, and even then I would not use it for many things I use a car for because the cost of transit is time.
i wonder how much of Americans' views on driving vs. transit would change if they had to pay for gas/insurance/etc every time they turned on the engine

"i'm not paying $5 to take the train to work twice a day when i can just drive" is a genuine opinion held by so many people

Tonight’s movie: The Conjuring: Last Rites. We’re big fans of the Conjuring Cinematic Universe and we loved this one. These films have just the right amount of jump scares and creepy stuff. And it was fun to see some of the casts of previous movies at the end.

Kelly's on the morning shows every week & still does this milquetoast routine even when he's in a position to be dominant. "I'm a retired U.S. Navy captain & I'm not going to let draft-dodging Donald Trump tell me what it means to defend the Constitution." be a fuckin' badass & make him look small!
Mark Kelly: "The message he sent a couple days ago was he declared that loyalty to the Constitution is now punishable by death. Those are serious words coming from the president. He's trying to intimidate us. But I'm not going to be intimidated."

I watched the Las Vegas Grand Prix late last night so I spent my morning coffee time listening to @jacketdan.bsky.social and @hooverstreetrag.org talk about GI Joe.

I’ve always been good with computers, all the way back to the Commodore 64. I had a work-study job in college in the IT department that turned into a FT position and then another job with a lobbyist and then a law firm.
What’s the lore behind choosing your career path ?

Earlier tonight, we went out to dinner and then a spectacular New York Philharmonic concert with Augustin Hadelich playing the Barber Violin Concerto and then the orchestra performing Sibelius’s Symphony No. 2. Now it’s race car time.

this is strategically designed by Republicans to get Democrats mad at their representatives and a lot of people are falling for it
BREAKING: The House of Representatives voted 285–98 in favor of a resolution condemning socialism.

Eighty-six Democrats joined Republicans in supporting the measure, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

Thursday night’s dress rehearsal went well. If you’re in New York on Saturday night come to my orchestra’s concert! It’s before Thanksgiving! You don’t have a holiday party as an excuse this year.
We had our rehearsal with Rachel Lee Priday on Wednesday night and she’s incredible. It’s going to be a spectacular concert on Saturday.

I block a lot more heavily on here than i did on the old site because 1) the nuclear block works and 2) too many of you are fucking bummers
If you're on this website get used to unhinged depressed people in your menchies trying to demoralize you
The deranged response to this makes me despair. There are so many educated, politically engaged people who are averse to thinking systematically. If you support LGBTQ rights, it is better, all else being equal, for the state to also support them.

Seriously, why is this loading dock area so brightly lit at 11 PM? No one is out there and they might get one late-night delivery a week.

The building across from our back windows has upgraded their floodlights this week and it’s at least 50%-75% brighter out there than it used to be. We don’t have curtains, just some paper blinds that we put up for privacy, and nothing in the living room. I think I need to upgrade now.

Having the Coast Guard, which falls under the Department of Homeland Security, decide that a swastika isn’t really a symbol of hate? That makes me, an American Jew, feel pretty damn unsafe.

This is because our country has spent the last 100 years designing all of our infrastructure around cars. Some of the most expensive and desirable areas in any state are the dense, walkable areas. But people can't afford to live there.
Right, this is true, but the OVERWHELMING evidence of the past 100 years of American life is that vastly more people want space and a car than a smaller unit and a car-free lifestyle. This is mostly why the suburban share of US population has grown relentlessly for the entire 20th and 21st century
Some people put a premium on space in my experience, others put a premium on not having to have a car and not being isolated out in the suburbs
