It is Friday afternoon of a wild, wild week. And yet for me a reassuring one. My greatest fear was not of what they would do. It's that we would let them. And I'm seeing a lot of beautiful intransigence. From federal workers. From people all over the country obstructing ICE....

This is a great thread about how students in research are impacted.
Ah, okay: at the undergrad level, these programs have been used to support student participation in research labs AND enabled them to get paid, either during the summer and/or during the academic year.

they want to erase us completely. do not let them, we will outlive these fascists. create art, take pictures of yourself or your trans friends, make something lasting. we will outlast them forever
‼️ The State Department has REMOVED TQIA+ on their page of recommendations for queer travelers. This page yesterday said "LGBTQIA+" and now just says "LGB".

The federal government is trying to erase trans people from existence.

The story of the Klamath River might just be our favourite things that happened this year. After decades of activism by the Karuk and Yurok tribes, the river was finally freed of four huge dams, ahead of schedule and on budget. https://buff.ly/4gd6E1b

'Anything that can be built can be taken down': The largest dam removal in US history is complete – what happens next?
The Klamath River is free of four huge dams for the first time in generations. But for the Yurok tribe, the river's restoration is only just beginning – starting with 18 billion seeds.

Well, this was a bit surprising. First, I have been going to Yolo Bypass near Davis, CA very very often and always dream of getting a good raptor pic with the "Hunter Check Station" sign. And I got one today of a kestrel sitting on that sign. Yes, this is a hunter check station.
