The last day of 2025. An unsettling year, especially for science, medicine, universities, human rights, democracy...

But in The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs, I wrote this passage. Things can be bad, but things have always gotten better.

Best wishes for a better 2026!

Merry Christmas from ICE! Here are a bunch of masked men dressed for war, breaking into a women's bathroom.
ICE agents illegally break into a woman's bathroom in a NY nutrition bar manufacturing plant. "Pull up your pants," says a male agent. The agents only had a warrant to review employer documents. They didn't have a warrant to search for, detain, or arrest anyone there.

I'll suspend my usual moralizing about buying and selling fossils to say...
...it's pretty awesome that Joe Burrow, one of the world's best athletes, is such a dinosaur enthusiast!! 😉

Burrow gifts offensive linemen authentic dinosaur, bear and mammoth fossils for Christmas
Burrow's love of fossils gained national acclaim because of a clip from the Netflix series "Quarterback," where he was pumped to see fossils at Chicago's Field Museum.

Remember when Elon Musk and Donald Trump ended almost all foreign aid, terminated cancer studies, gutted American scientific research, fired thousands of government workers?

It saved no money. None. It only caused pain and cruelty.

Nuno Loureiro was the best of America.

Born abroad, moved to the USA, established a world-class physics lab, taught students, raised a family, became a pillar of his community.

Like me and millions of others, not a 'heritage American.' But who cares?
