Of all the sins of AI, this is an unexpected and deeply annoying one
Funny animal videos no longer being trustworthy just fucking sucks all around. I love the wonder of animal behavior and what it says about the experience of being alive. It's because it happened in reality that it's so fun. It's not fun if it was just made up. There's no wonder there.

The thing about AI anime dubs and AI Actor Tilly Norwood and AI music is just the fucking disrespect, this is what your industry thinks can replace you and it’s not even good. It’s not even a thing you look at with dread at how the computer has replaced Man, it just sucks ass lol it just blows

people are angry that chatbots are being thrust on them; that the industry is unregulated; that it’s deskilling young people; is being used as a weapon against labor and popular gAI is built on theft of the work of millions of artists and authors.

You don’t get to demand civility.
Wow 80% bad-faith responses, and people lecturing the creator of Flask here and the creator of Django/datasette in the comments on why AI is useless for software engineering...
Is this platform still massively against AI or has it moved more towards acceptance?

Elon Musk donated $277 million to Trump so he could steal the federal government’s data, dismantle the nation’s infrastructure, and stop foreign aid from going to nonwhite people. It’s a quid pro quo breathtaking in scope, corruption, and damage, & completely unprecedented in American history.
Bye bye, “DOGE”.

It no longer exists as a “centralized entity”, according to the Office of Personnel Management.

And it has indeed come to pass.
Trump in a room with a very charismatic person results in like half a day of Trump agreeing with everything that person said, so this has the potential to be very, very funny.

Property taxes are high in Illinois because we a) collect the same total amount regardless of valuations (do not use the millage system), b) refuse to develop a plan that would take care of pensions and c) have a constitutional requirement to pay pensions earned.

The Rankin/Bass Return of the King is fun, but it's working with too much material to do justice to anything but the Frodo/Sam bits.

That said, though certainly abridged, I find Bakshi's take on LOTR to be rather enchanting. bsky.app/profile/dand...
I think the main reason why I find Ralph Bakshi's Lord of the Rings film to be so endearing is that it's a purely mystical take on the material. Its view of Middle Earth is constantly being reshaped, as if there's no one true experience to be had.

I think the Rankin/Bass version of The Hobbit is likely going to be the best adaptation of Tolkien's novel that we're ever going to get. Its art design runs the gamut from rustic to creepy to lovely, and its assortment of songs lend it a fairy tale quality that really fits the story.

I think any story about Trump's autocracy should be mostly about the people and institutions who failed to stop it. This guy isn't a political genius, everything else just happens to be rotten. 'Toddler Consolidates Power In Household' is a story about incompetent parents, not shrewd maneuvering
