"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

My review of Brigands and Breadknives: Is this book quite as "cozy" as the others? No. Is it fun? Absolutely.

I had just wrapped up reading some Kingfisher novels and kept forgetting I wasn't reading another one, which is about the highest praise I think I can give. 5/5, Bucket is amazing.

I made these brushes free for whoever wants them, but if you download and share this a bunch it raises my chances of winning some clippy, so if you wanna pass them on and share them consider that like tipping me for my trouble haha
I kept meaning to make some bespoke set-dressing chains for Pipeburn so I don’t need to ink every individual link in every individual panel like I did last time, so I decided to actually enter one of those Clip Studio Asset Challenges for once assets.clip-studio.com/en-us/detail...

boosting this again because honestly I am proud of this near future and very political sf story, the illustration by Juan Bernabeu is exceptional, and big shout out to the editor Oliver Dougherty for having such a keen eye.
An older medic with scant resources fights to support her community as they survive life behind the company wall.

This novelette is my only near future sf story, inspired by a long-ago convo with my dad & by the activists who never give up.

New crab! New crab! "The name is derived from a Malay term used to describe the 'hidden people' of the forest or Orang Bunian. They are often described as beautifully dressed forest denizens. The name, bunian, alludes to the beautiful colours as well as it escaping scientific attention until now."

Could you kindly tell to me
How you see a question mark
Where no question mark would be?

A hundred skeets or more.
But no advice did you need to give
When no advice I asked for."

Trying to do more reading, less doom scrolling, but @tkingfisher.com gently and apologetically tugs my heart out of my chest in the most unexpected ways

Which is way better than doom scrolling, which does that horrifically and not fictionally, but my eyes are leaking rn

It looks to me like the ACA letters going out in some states are only quoting the new, increased plan cost WITHOUT any subsidies at all. So, folks will have to go online to see their actual premium, which is not the same as plan cost. Try not to panic if you have not been online to confirm.

I think a lot about the story Carl Reiner told: he’d have been a sewing machine repairman if not for a free WPA drama class. That led to other theater work, to Sid Caesar, to Mel Brooks, and all the rest. All because of one free class paid for by a government that felt the arts were worth teaching.
you ever think about the works progress administration? I sure do. I wish that was a thing now. I would be so glad to contribute my labor to like. A random ass local bridge

Tonight was the inaugural ride of our new home buyout program. We connect with vendors too scared to be out, and we purchase from them at home. Tonight we bought 250 tamales, divided into 3 teams to deliver all over the city to folks on the street, Love Fridges, and a youth shelter.

I block enormous numbers of people I’ve never actually interacted with, both manually and via filters and blocklists, and I believe this is a key reason why I have a very pleasant time on this website
Sometimes I don’t even interact with them, I just see someone being stupid and toxic, and I use the block button, like a little treat

I always get drawn back to Al Gore telling voters that he’d only raise taxes on the top 1% and then after the election a poll showed that something like 20% of voters thought they were in the top 1% and another 20% thought they would be in the next five years. Just a total tragic disconnect.
Maaaaan, this. So much this. Every time there's any kind of actual in-depth survey we find that the American people are *abysmally* ignorant about even the most basic political facts, but the pundit class just immediately forgets & proceeds with political analysis based on subtle policy differences.
Feels like so many of our convos are revolving about how voters respond to what politicians are doing, or what parties’ positions on issues are, without much actual empirical sense of what they actually know about those topics.
