Was watching this clip recently and table 1 all the way. It was sad in a way to see time reduce Reggie—who was so alive with outsized physicality for my entire life—to an older smaller man; but Jesus, I could listen to him talk and tell stories the entire night.

Growing up in NYC, I saw lots of dudes like Trump. They talked a ton of shit and then backed the fuck down when someone better at it squared off on them. It was the one thing those guys respected. Nice to see a fellow NYer do that today.

Calling bullshit on “History doesn’t repeat itself, but it does rhyme” now that we have added baseball players rigging games to political supercorruption, tariffs, and rising industrial overlords. This is just derivative repetition of the Gilded Age with no elegant rhyme scheme whatsoever.

I think a lot about the story Carl Reiner told: he’d have been a sewing machine repairman if not for a free WPA drama class. That led to other theater work, to Sid Caesar, to Mel Brooks, and all the rest. All because of one free class paid for by a government that felt the arts were worth teaching.

I’ve tried talking to my outer-borough family in NYC about their thoughts on Mamdani and they won’t indicate why they don’t like him, just that they don’t. I suspect they’ve been fed a media diet that tells them not to and it stops there.
