Finished @kateelliottsff.bsky.social's Witch Roads duology (the second book just came out) and loved it so so much. Great worldbuilding and fun character voices in a story with some amazing relationship dynamics.

THE WITCH ROADS is the first one, if anyone is looking for a fun read.

Yes, I am going to keep re-upping this off & on until the end of the year because it is, alas, topical to the current situation in the USA (meant to take place a few decades in our future).
Activism is also the small, ordinary, collective actions of people keeping their heads above water day to day.
An older medic with scant resources fights to support her community as they survive life behind the company wall.

This novelette is my only near future sf story, inspired by a long-ago convo with my dad & by the activists who never give up.

Found the tweet that Joyce Carol Oates bodied Elon Musk with and it's so beautiful in its eloquent, simple take down. So much so he's crashing out trying to prove he reads books now. Put this in the Louvre.

In my old town the GOP had run basically without serious challenge for decades. A bunch of us "millennials" joined the local Dem party and basically asked to help.

We were running it in a year. Within 4 years we had a majority of town seats flipped Dem. A FAR more progressive Dem than old party
“Rather than taking over the Democratic Party the same way the right took over the Republican Party, we should take the easier route and just start up a new party ourselves!”

I’m about to fill my pockets with stones and walk into the sea.

Finished @kateelliottsff.bsky.social's The Nameless Lands. Wow. What a ride.
Fantastic worldbuilding, complex and layered characters, and such meaty politics. Loved the various reversals, and the way things turned out to have repercussions many times over.

This short thread about the Witch Roads duology gets at something deep in the story from an angle I hadn't consciously thought about, but which absolutely rings true to me. I love that readers will connects threads in a way that illuminates my own narrative back at me. (no spoilers)
I finished @kateelliottsff.bsky.social’s The Nameless Land, which finishes the Witch Roads Duology. In a high fantasy setting where the story could easily and satisfactorily been a quest to save the world, we instead narrowly focus on a few people swept up in the machinations of princes. 1/🧵

Nuremburg trials is the moderate position
He said that the agents would throw food at them to eat. The agents threatened to withhold food for a week and to beat him up if he didn't sign deportation papers. He said he saw others refuse and get beaten/receive no food. He signed because he was afraid.

An important recall on infant formula I just learned about from this #FoodSafety email list. States are stepping into the gaping void left by the dismantling of our federal system in small but necessary ways.

Justice KBJ is a brilliant strategist. She is working the rules to compel timely review of the stay in the SNAP case by both the Circuit Court and by the Supreme Court. This is why knowing which SCOTUS justice has supervision of the Circuit you file in is essential.

boosting this again because honestly I am proud of this near future and very political sf story, the illustration by Juan Bernabeu is exceptional, and big shout out to the editor Oliver Dougherty for having such a keen eye.

The world has focused on Zohran Mamdani, for VERY good reason. 🙌🏼
But don’t forget- he’s not the only one.👊🏼
Mayor Brandon Johnson of Chicago is on 🔥….
Much like Mamdani, he is focused on the right thing- affordability.
And fighting ICE.
We love him 💙 &
