I spent the summer reporting this essay on why it seems harder than ever to sell a book right now—especially if it isn't a debut and comes with the dreaded "sales track." I'm grateful to the writers, agents, editors, publishers & experts who spoke to me for this piece: thewalrus.ca/the-publishi...

what ezra doesn't seem willing to accept is that charlie kirk was part of a political movement that does not think that "we are going to have to live here with each other" and is fact very interested in the elimination and/or subjugation of many, many people
"All I can say for me in the work I do is that I want to create a space that takes our disagreements seriously, that takes the stakes of them seriously, the consequences for people seriously, but does so without deepening our divisions irreparably. We are going to have to live here with each other"

Since Charlie Kirk was fatally shot, people on the left have been censored, punished, and targeted with more violence for telling the truth about Kirk's legacy. The cycle continues: mainstream whitewashing of violence begets more violence and the victims are blamed.

The national gaslighting about Charlie Kirk
Another pattern of censorship that only hurts the left—and emboldens political violence.

all i know for certain is jesse watters should never be allowed in front of a camera again in his life, the bloodlust for democrats he espoused and the violence he tried to inspire before knowing a single freaking fact of this case should be a source of shame for any “news” network

The Wall Street Journal needs to issue a full retraction and apology to the trans community for this. Nothing less will suffice. They put us all in danger and recklessly put out incorrect information.

Please report this website:
I’m officially scared.

Because of this ONE tweet being afraid of potential reverberations of right wing political violence from this — something many others have said — I’m now the first result on a website called “charliesmurderers.”

This is putting me in genuine danger.

What the fuck do I do

beyond the moral ghoulish ness I just don't understand the basic contention of how this is supposed to work as a defense. if a whole population of people was starving en masse, would one expect people with "pre-existing conditions" to be over or underrepresented amongst those who die first?
‘The people we have been starving were already quite ill’ is an admission of guilt not a defense.

My friend's two children already had malnutrition creep in for his two youngest, who we got out of Gaza in April 2024. It's been more than a year of being in Canada and they have long-lasting impacts.
Hunger can be alleviated with food. It's a pretty simple process

Starvation and malnutrition, on the other hand, often require medical care and specialized food

It is now safe to admit that the Palestinians are starving. They can send in boatloads of food and people will still die
What World War II taught us about how to help starving people today
The modern study of starvation was sparked by the liberation of concentration camp survivors. U.S. and British soldiers rushed to feed them — and yet they sometimes perished.

This, by the way, is also the answer to people snarking "there's a Charter right to bike lanes now?" No, and the decision doesn't say there is. The government can still cause you bodily harm, the Charter only asks them to present the barest evidence-based case that it's needed.

It's saving 3 minutes on the Lakeshore to Bloor portion, if it went to Eglinton it would save up to 10 minutes!!

And it's honestly not just about average time saved, this is about reliability and controlling bunching. It's awful having to wait 30 minutes then for 2-3 streetcars coming in a row.
