#OTD in Weather History, 48 years ago, on November 10, 1975, the ore freighter SS EDMUND FITZGERALD was lost with all hands in a severe storm on Lake Superior.
She is perhaps the best known shipwreck on the Great Lakes, and today we remember her loss. 1/

I seldom use Office apps but when I do, I still struggle to find functionality on that shitty ribbon that I could track down in a second using the menus in Office 97.
The distance in time between now and when Microsoft Office replaced drop down menus with the ribbon bar at the top is the same as the distance between then and the fall of the Berlin Wall

there's a moment in PARADISE LOST where Satan arrives in Eden and realizes Hell isn't a place; it's a thing he carries within him and it'll follow him wherever he goes. and i think about that when i see these awful rich men whose monstrous wealth has enriched them not at all

One of the weirder things about Elon Musk is how he ended up getting a bunch of people to incorrectly use the word "Boer".
We’re watching Joyce Carol Oates slowly torture a Boer to death in real-time

I’ve read 38! I’m pretty sure I’ll never get to 100% because even if I finally get around to finishing the secondhand hardback of “Ulysses” I bought in 1979 (I think I made it to around page 40?), there’s no way I’ll ever get through “Finnegan’s Wake” 😄
For #Readers: The Rory Gilmore Reading Challenge is pretty darn great. It has the 339 books (novels, nonfiction, plays, poetry) that Rory of the The Gilmore Girls* is shown reading. I'm only at 23% so I need to get to steppin'.

My favorite part is she said he didn't read books or watch movies and his NO! NO! NO, NO NO NO! NOOOO! response wasn't about books, because he can't read, he just went to some movie Twitter account and gave 3 word essays on such important films like Edge of Tomorrow and Fifth Element.
Wow, Joyce Carol Oates really drove a needle DEEP into Elon Musk's mind with that tweet about how uncultured he is lmfaooo

You just know that Musk would type “Hey Grok, what’s the plot of Crime and Punishment?”, skim-read the output, then go around telling people “Yeah, I’ve been reading Dostoevsky” 🙄

It's always weird to me when people are like "I'm an uncompromising artist" and then the famous story about any great artist is how they compromised. Like Akira Kurosawa being asked about a shot and going "well, there was a highway on one side and a factory on the other, so that's all I could shoot"

In maybe 2008/9, I investigated the haunting of an ancient pub whose cellar could only be reached via a wooden ladder and I swear I walked into this very cobweb down there. I still remember the fresh horror to this day. To. This. Day.
World's biggest spiderweb discovered inside 'Sulfur Cave' with 111,000 arachnids living in pitch black.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."
Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.
