People think I'm heroic for caring for my aging mother, but she cleaned me up when I pooped in my diapers, wiped the food and drool off of my face when I ate, pushed me in a carriage when I couldn't walk far. Sure, I stopped drinking 3 years ago but I don't forget her kindness during that period.

When I was growing up there were songs sung blue and everybody knew one. But I didn't. I kept the shame inside. I didn't know who to talk to. It's taken me many years to wrestle with this but now I speak my truth so kids today who don't know any songs sung blue don't have to experience the pain.
