Isn’t it amazing the way life can seem too short, and intrinsically magical, yet at the same time feel like a long, uphill road, potholed with fuckwits?

I know antifa isn't a real organization because I don't get 40 texts a week from them asking for donations.

NEW: Arkansas announced plans for a mega prison in a rural town. Since then, locals are organizing to stop it.

At first they opposed it in their own town. But some now say they've taken a more critical look at how we incarcerate in the country.

make time for this new feature, you won't regret it
The Prison Next Door - Bolts

I would, more broadly, love to read something on why women are seemingly the ones with all the hobbies - it strikes me once in a while but noticed it most recently in my film camera shop, where *every single customer* was a woman, when film photography doesn't strike me as especially female coded
Talk to your neighbour! Start train spotting! Consider tennis! Get a dog and go to puppy classes! What of lawn bowls? What of music lessons! Learn to ceilidh dance! Take French! MY GOD LADS IT DOESNT HAVE TO BE FASCISM.

As a reviewer I have a lot to say about this topic. Here is the thing I say most often:

Did the review spell your name right, and the name of your book correctly, too?

YOU WIN. Go home. Celebrate. There is nothing more to do.

Someone. Talked. About. Your. Book.
NEVER. It’s honestly the greatest piece of author advice and so few people follow it.
Don't read your reviews. Don't do it. That way lies madness. Try to forget that this is a business at all, and keep your eyes on your own work.

I saw someone over the weekend post something along the lines of "Everyone will be posting about The News. Only you can post a picture of the turtle you saw." I think that's a good rule of thumb to follow most days. Go ahead and share the good stuff, don't feel abashed.

A thing about growing up poor, or even middle class in America, is that there comes a time when you look back on bad memories or traumatic experiences you saw and realize how many of them had something to do with a lack of money

For those of you who knew Victoria Brownworth on Twitter, she passed away from cancer yesterday.

She was a fearless journalist who reported on AIDS in the 80s (when Reagan was ignoring it), lifted up the LGBTQ community, & rooted out corruption.

Her wife, Maddy Gold, died of cancer in 2022.
