license plate data merged with credit header data, marriage records, vehicle ownership, and voter registrations, in one app for ICE agents. oh and it sends push notifications when someone they're seeking is nearby.

This App Lets ICE Track Vehicles and Owners Across the Country
Material viewed by 404 Media shows data giant Thomson Reuters enriches license plate data with marriage, voter, and ownership records. The tool can predict where a car may be in the future.

79-year-old Paul Bojerski was born to Polish parents in a WWII German refugee camp. His family legally emigrated to the U.S. when he was 5.

He’s been taken by ICE in Florida.

Sanford grandfather, born in refugee camp, nabbed by ICE after 70 years in U.S.
Paul Bojerski never gained official residency, but he checked in regularly with ICE for years. Then in July, at age 79, he was detained and sent to Alligator Alcatraz.

Playing Hollow Knight after Silksong is *certainly* an experience

stealing an observation from Dan Olson's thread, the enemies 90% of the time are straight-up goombas. flying enemies just kinda float around. everyone does 1 mask of damage. bosses move sloooowly

it's still a masterpiece but wow lol

I'm mad as hell NYT and that other rag put out Olivia Nuzzi puff pieces, but I'm also mad at all y'all sharing it

Block her forever! Memory-hole her! Email the publishers to heckle them! But stop luridly sharing it, that's why it happens
I get why it happens but goddamn do I wish anything could hit as hard on the timeline as something that sucks that everyone hates written by or about the worst person you know. I wish something good or interesting was able to get anywhere near the traction some shit that sucks does.

Jesus, yes

The truth is that antisemitism is real, horrible, terrifying, and all over the world, all throughout history

But it's more shaped like the 2017 Charlottesville guys chanting "Jews will not replace us," or people Seig Heil-ing than "please stop starving children and bombing hospitals"
Antisemitism is a lot like Qanon child abuse conspiracies in that there’s this real and bad phenomenon and, parallel to that, what can only be described as a large scale mass psychosis about a mostly fictional version of the same phenomenon

What's really strange is not the ad itself. It's that someone thought "Let's advertise someone who is fully isolated and talks to a machine because there is no human being around, that's going to make people want to be like him" and actually got this through internal processes.
just saw the worst gaming ad ive ever seen

Need an analog to the “police passive” for this kind of description of sexually abusive men “being Me Tooed”—as if they were merely caught in a storm, their own actions and behavior irrelevant to their outcomes. Call it the predator passive.
When you write the whole piece around the idea of “MeToo” as an adequate description of what caused specific men to lose specific positions, and when you do this incredibly weird cutesy business to avoid *mentioning what happened*, you do a disservice to readers.

Ben Shapiro and Hollywood!

A very famous art school reject in the 30's!

Many such cases. It's also another brick in the house of "why is conservative TV/movies/music/comedy so terrible?"
years ago an emmy-winning comedy writer posted this in a DM group and I’ve thought about it literally every day since (anonymized and shared with permission)

This is so so disturbing. Trump is now pardoning January 6th rioters for unrelated crimes, just to reward them for their violence to keep him in power.

The Republican Party is in the full time business of endorsing and incentivizing political violence. So scary.

Remembering a favorite old tweet, by @rbelleme.bsky.social during the #NaNoWriMoOpeners game (paraphrased):

"At long last, I have seized ALL the guns!" cackled Hitlery Clinton. But there was one gun she missed. I relaxed my sphincter.

Rudy Bridges is younger than the Sitting President of the United States and 29 sitting United States Senators
It’s useful for people of my generation to be reminded that this wasn’t that long ago. Ruby Bridges isn’t just still alive—she’s only 71, not ancient!
65 years ago on Nov. 14, little Ruby Bridges was escorted into an all-white elementary school in New Orleans. Norman Rockwell, renowned for blissful depictions of Americana, did this remarkable painting for Look magazine. Printed as a double page, over-size spread, it's his masterpiece.

My favorite theory for why Dems don't chase winning issues is because they don't want to be on the hook for solving them when they win

eg their ideal administration would faff around with a blocked, market-based infra project for 19 months. Campaigning on Epstein means having to clean house
made a similar point on the opinions podcast this week in response to the idea that epstein is a dead end. not only are actual voters interested in this but it divides the gop and puts pressure on the president. it would be political malpractice to treat it as a sideshow
The usual suspects are telling Dems that Epstein won’t win elections, get back to “affordability” and I think my head might explode. www.offmessage.net/p/force-a-re...

It's very interesting how the media pushed the line that arresting politicians 'makes you a banana republic' when the reverse is absolutely true.
History shows that democracies don’t survive when their leaders live above the law. This danger is magnified by Trump’s pardoning or promising to pardon people who’ve already committed crimes on his behalf, acts intended to benefit him politically or personally.

The Epstein Affair Has Move From Sleaze to a Crisis for American Democracy Itself
This Epstein Affair has shown a pattern where men of wealth and power created a zone of impunity that protected them for decades while destroying vulnerable people like Virginia Guiffrey…
