i FINALLY found my copy of @nikostratis.com's book in my office - had lost it for months - and opened up the epigraph page to find possibly my favorite moment from my favorite character on my second-favorite show. i am so ready for this read.

through steel. Pain reminds us that we're alive, a mortifying cliche for a writer to have to use except for how precisely it describes the feeling of, well, pain reminding you that you're alive. Laughter does it too. Tears and laughter, being involuntary responses, are signs of life in a way that stoically suffering through heartsickness—working at your desk with a stone in your chest, dosing yourself with OTC-grade emotional painkillers—will never be. But then I thought, maybe my friend just doesn't need so many reminders that he's alive. Maybe I'm the one who needs them, because of the way I am made.
