Law enforcement: we need to break encryption to get access to Signal to protect the children!!

Also law enforcement: for years couldn’t catch a pedophile sex trafficker who used email to coordinate all of his pedophile sex trafficking

Tax Churches
Government buyback of guns, and after 6 months, we just take them
Abolish ICE
CBP reverted to 90's version
Something that looks a lot like prison abolition
Cities of certain density (still pretty low; Dallas qualifies) have many pro-bike/transit anti-car measures
No school lunch debt
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

Also how long it spent in each phase

Like, I became aware of it at 1, but it was months before it was 2, where it lived for less than a year

followed by 8-12 YEARS of 3 and 4
i'd love to read a real evolution of "stay woke" - i saw it evolve as:
1. in black culture, a way of pointing out structural racism
2. on black twitter, same thing but often a joke about something silly
3. white people adopt woke to mean generic antiracism
4. conservatives learn a new n-word
“woke” as i recall originated as a kind of ironic conspiratorial posting thing on black twitter (“stay woke”), and then conservatives decided it was just “political correctness” in the millennial era bsky.app/profile/unst...

The Republican president is a pedophile who has doubled my healthcare costs and let scores of violent criminals out of jail. But a Democratic mayor-elect wants to make busses free in a city I don't live in. I have never felt more politically homeless.

I largely agree with this thread and love data centers as a concept, but simultaneously feel that most companies could save a lot of money if they colocate 2-3 servers instead of run cloud

ideally they colocate in a data center!
I genuinely don’t think people realize that datacenters and what they accomplish (hyperscalers) are genuinely a far more efficient way to do the computation required for modern life. Limiting datacenters is not more efficient and does not consume less power for the same amount of compute.

Every office has an executive tier whose emails are like:

saw on news , , can we replce complianc dept with web 3

and a worker tier whose emails are like:

Dear Jim,
First of all, I *love* this idea! Unfortunately, I spoke with Legal and identified a few issues with this approach. For starters…
Well, it's a little clearer now why billionaires are so invested in technology that produces better written emails.

Remember how the Panama Papers changed nothing, and the leaker got killed?

Remember how Chelsea Manning's leaks didn't lead to any real heads rolling?

Remember when Edward Snowden patriotically gave up a life in the US and it didn't change surveillance culture?

Remember
All the Epstein emails are powerful elites saying shit like “Hello my friend the pedophile, i need your advice as a pedophile, what do you think about this other pedophile? Pedophilic Regards, your Friend ;)” and instead of swinging from a gibbet most of them are still writing op-eds against leftism

This builds on @mtsw.bsky.social ‘s theory the real reason managers and corporates hate work from home is it exposes who can read and who can write, and hint hint, a lot of America’s higher up can barely do either

it reminds me a bit of Google?

~a decade of "the system works! what a great company!" and then in the mid 2010's we learn of massive amounts of womanizing happening (Sergey, Drummond, Rubin)

so the 90s/00s were what they were, but they also had a substrate layer of ALL these guys doing this shit
Hmm it seems that all the people who rule over us, in government and the private sector and academia, are evil pedophiles.

I always said that most "big company bullshit" happens because "generating docs, demanding docs, having meetings -- the customer doesn't care, but it feels like work is happening." It's hard to tell too, because you do need some process!

But GenAI feeds into the worst of that
it's just, yeah, genai isn't going to make a great developer any more productive, and as best we can tell, it makes them slower

but the people in your company who simply do not give a fuck? it lets them create work and look productive

for every honest genai user there are countless more scammers
Glad to see Polygon cover the resistance of game developers to generative AI--and to be able to speak briefly to one of the greatest dangers of this entire thing.

Gen AI doubles down on making MORE SPACE for production issues that *already make games worse.*

I think one of the most important strengths you can have, if you're lucky to have it or develop it, is to refuse to be awed by rich or powerful people on that basis alone
i have said this before but i think that the people who were “charmed” by epstein wanted to be charmed
honestly one of the most striking things about epstein's emails is the fact that the man, described in many places as "a genius," is essentially subliterate

The American penny died on Wednesday in Philadelphia. It was 232. The cause was irrelevance and expensiveness, the Treasury Department said. Nothing could be bought any more with a penny, as the cost to mint the penny had risen to more than 3 cents. nyti.ms/48bFd5K

a) hilarious
b) human-made art keeps winning: this weekend I visited home, and the most popular thing for my niece and nephew (11 and 8) was working through @thecryptmaster.bsky.social 's skull riddles

It's a great game! Do check it out!
Absolute carnage in the family group chat as my cousin posts a Christmas riddle from her fiancé’s office that no one can figure out, only to find that someone in the office got ChatGPT to make up the riddle and it’s gibberish that doesn’t have a solution

Also, I wonder how this would be different for logographic languages like Chinese Hanzi/Japanese Kanji, where "phonics" as an idea wouldn't be so straightforward
