Charlie Kirk was a husband and a father. We heard it over and over again

Only certain types of people get to be husbands and fathers. Some people are simply civilians. Faceless, nameless and without consequence. Civilians die. It's what they do
The New York Times has just confirmed that 40 civilians died in President Trump's invasion.

This is the aftermath in one area

Two minutes of footage of wheelchair users on bike lanes in Paris. A classic video I posted on Twitter a few years ago I had not posted here yet.

Very good that The Netherlands does not participate. Hope more countries follow. Spain and Ireland are also out and rightly so.

When cities build protected cycle tracks, families don’t have to choose between safety and freedom. Kids can ride on their own, dads can hang back, and everyone gets where they’re going safely and comfortably. Safe infrastructure turns everyday trips into independence, not stress, yo!

When you leave in a car you’re thinking “what’s the fastest way to get there?”

When I leave on my bike I’m thinking “what’s the safest way to get there?”

We are not the same

The global phenomenon of “bikelash” has become one of the biggest barriers to implementing interventions that make our streets more liveable, accessible and sustainable. So how do we best manage it as advocates for change? Here are eight strategies we recently presented at the Velo-city Conference.🧵

Car culture in cities is the most fiscally irresponsible transportation policy the status quo blindly supports.
Every multi-lane city street is a policy failure.

Seen from above, the Kniphoekbrug in Houten is a simple, well-designed link in the town’s cycling network. It offers an easy, pleasant route over the water, showing how good infrastructure makes everyday cycling straightforward and enjoyable.

As seen at the 2025 Velo-city Conference in Gdansk, the Big Bike Orchestra is a Polish pop-folk band formed in 2021 in Bydgoszcz.

Their unique feature is the combination of playing musical instruments while simultaneously riding a specially constructed six-person bicycle.

China’s comeback as the Kingdom of Bicycles is happening at a momentous scale.

In Beijing, 3200 km of infrastructure has been built, with 200 km added each year.

It is a spectacular course correction—an admission that cities with more people cycling work better for everybody.

🚲 After more than 12 years, I returned to the F35 continuous-cycle route between Borne and Enschede. A lot has changed—new sections, design upgrades, and even cross-border ambitions.
Blog post with two videos: one report and one real-time ride.

From Fog to Sunshine: Revisiting the F35 Continuous-Cycle Route
Well over twelve years ago, in November 2012, I visited the F35 continuous-cycle route under construction between Hengelo and Enschede in the province of Overijssel. At the time, only about 3 kilometres of the route had been completed. Over the years, viewers of my videos from that visit kept commenting that I should return, because so much had changed. And indeed, by 2024 and the first half of 2025, a considerable number of sections had been finished.

Cities need more walk/bike up windows.
I like the way that in Gouda there is literally almost nowhere you can get a coffee at 8:45am, but you’ll have no problem buying stroopwafels at any time of day or night
