A jerk from the Ozarks with resting Christian face
Pinned
Hi, I’m Joshua. I’m a born and raised rural Missouri hillbilly with a PhD in Religion from the University of Denver. I spent 6 years trying to become an Episcopal priest, but washed out of the discernment process in 2022. Now I write online courses about OSHA’s workplace safety requirements.
Thanks, fextralife. Super informative! #darksouls #fromsoftware

I’ll try a pagan friend, thought I, since Christian kindness has proved but hollow courtesy.

I was just there last week. Can confirm: Vegas is one of the most depressing places I’ve ever traveled.
Fully believe this is why the Vegas airport is also one of the saddest most dysfunctional places on Earth. Can’t say they didn’t warn you upon entry!
You should be forced to walk by a line-up of theoretically alive mummies on oxygen machines who are chain smoking at the slots before you’re able to bet on anything

The data is pretty clear: paywalls are useless. They put needless barriers between readers and news sources. People either try to find the information available elsewhere for free, or give up and remain uninformed. Either way, the results aren’t great

Few Americans pay for news when they encounter paywalls
Among adults who have not paid for news in the past year, the most common reason they cite is that they can find plenty of other news articles for free.

If your church is turning away people who show up to your doors in good faith, you don't have a church. You have a very expensive book club with scarcely any wine.

People always quote MLK about the moral arc of the universe bending toward justice, but usually neglect the part about it being long.

The man in this photo is actually named Captain Chopmutton
sideburns being named after general burnsides sounds like one of those apocryphal folk legends except it's true. They're literally named after this guy

Opinions are better if they’re true, which requires understanding what they affirm or reject, and not if they’re an amount of woke. That’s my conservative opinion that often forces me to do liberal things. Thanks, goodbye.
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

Same is true for funerals, too.

Just a few more assaults on priests and helicopter raids on suburban apartment complexes before the president's immigration enforcement numbers recover, I'm sure.
at one point, i watched a cook county sheriff’s officer (who appears to be in charge) point out a priest in the crowd.

he and a couple officers then went into the crowd , dragged him into the street, and arrested him.

situation is still tense as crowd jostles with police to get into the street.

Slowly coming to realize that I did not waste my time on the Church, but rather the Church wasted my time.

That will be on a few very specific clergy to explain at the eschaton.
How DO normal people deal with the recognition that they've burned large swathes of time they'll never get back doing things they regret or don't remember?
There is something about this that's simultaneously encouraging and "I've wasted my life".
