There are two big meteorologists covering the pending ice storm in SC. One of them is updating a few times a day, giving a range of possible outcomes. The other is updating every hour or so with openers like "This won't be the 2005 ice storm—it could be WORSE!" Feels exploitative post-Helene.

For anyone coming to this late, I've now seen the film, stood, and am doing other things.

Chris Hemsworth was, surprisingly, my favorite part of Furiosa. Kinda feel like with the right scripts he has/had the juice to be an Arnie-type action star. Buff, hot, very funny, and can play against type.

Seated for Furiosa!

They've only got one story and it sucks.
Emmer: "The people you're seeing in these videos, the vast majority of them I do not believe are from Minnesota. These are organized chaos agents, paid agitators. The vast majority of Minnesotans that are talking to me appreciate that law enforcement has arrived, and they are happy they're there."

Greg Bovino is just more evidence that if you don't let a theater kid theater as hard as they can they'll turn evil.

I think of coding as similar to writing, and so I find this take refreshing
Continuing to find it insulting that so many writers on here are sure they can't be replaced by AI but software developers can.

I know the arrogance of the "Software Craftsmanship" movement has made it gauche to say but writing software is, it at least can be, an art. It undergirds most of the modern world. And it shouldn't be outsourced to unaccountable machines that can't innovate.
I know I just posted this same sentiment a couple days ago but genuinely I think it's so insulting. "AI can never make a good movie" and "AI makes software developers obsolete" are opposing viewpoints unless you think devs are just monkeys.

I find Graham interesting because he is a lifetime politician who is not stupid. He knows this stuff is ridiculous. But he's become a very loyal doormat and I just think that's interesting.

My Uncle Edwas the first person I ever knew with internet. We used to email each other jokes. They owned a pizzeria together, Emma's Pizzeria, where they showed kids movies on a big screen, and I spent hours every summer watching them. Still can't see Aladdin or The Lion King without flashbacks.
Just learned that my Aunt Emma passed. One of the sweetest, godliest women I've ever known. I hope she's with her siblings and husband now.

Pretty wild how Trump has exposed that, aside from non-SCOTUS courts, there are no real guardrails at all.

One of those posts where the difference between Al and AI is critical
My working theory is that Al is the new Mr Rogers. Famously religious nice guy that almost everyone feels positively toward.
I doubt there will ever be as good a song parodist as Weird Al.

In hospital, I started going into a coma, nurse shouts "shoot her up with glucagon!" Later I was told that while semiconscious I started singing "insulin, glucagon, coming from the islets of Langerhans..." Freaked everyone out because they didn't know the song. Happy ending: they fixed my pancreas.

I've thought about this lots the past couple years, and especially the past couple months as I work on a sermon about Sabbath as a mechanism for resisting the idea that your worth is based on constant demands to produce even more.

Every AI defender goes on and on about "productivity"and "efficiency" but to what end? It's not giving regular people any additional free time. It just turns them into bigger "producers", as though producing more was an unequivocal good.

One difference with Weird Al though is that he'll sue ya.

Sick man, sick party, sick country, sick people, one can only tremble upon the reflection that God is just and that His justice can not sleep forever. The bastards will never admit it, they won't write in the history books but it's the truth and they can't make you forget it.
Trump on Renee Good: "When she was shot, there was another woman that was screaming 'Shame. Shame Shame Shame.' So loud. Like a professional opera singer. She was so loud. And so professional. She wasn't a woman that was hurt like, 'Oh my heart is injured.' She was a professional."

Even now it's a little surprising to me that there aren't 4 Republicans who'd rather vote against a lame duck than co-sign WW3 but ok.
