Finished. Some of the best direction I've ever seen in a film. And a surprising amount of moral ambiguity. Maybe the least Tom Hanks I've ever seen Tom be. Very good film.
Think I'm going to see Saving Private Ryan at the theater tonight.

performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

Just saw that someone won a billion dollars in the lottery and after taxes they only had 638 million left. I hope they're ok.

The only lesson Democrats learn from anything is "we should retreat".
Ahead of midterms, climate policy has become a wedge issue splitting Democrats. After last week's electoral victories, some Democrats will only talk about expanding clean energy through lens of affordability. Others believe talking about climate change will win voters. www.eenews.net/articles/ret...
Retreat or recast? Democrats debate future of climate politics.
Democratic election wins last week reignited arguments on how — or if — candidates should discuss climate change on the campaign trail.

This is ridiculous for any number of reasons but pre Musk I used to get more likes than this weekly on posts I forgot I even made, with less than 3k followers.
Twitter created an official account that features posts that got lots of high quality engagement, and this guy is going absolutely Nasim Aghdam mode over his post not being included. They sent him something like $10k over it originally

Fuck them, I hope they never sleep well again.
After the verdict was read and the jury released, 379th District Court Judge Ron Rangel turned to the family of slain 46-year-old Melissa Perez, including her four children.

“The jury wanted me to tell the family they were very sorry for your loss,” said Rangel.
Three former officers faced life in prison for the death of Melissa Perez, whom they shot behind a locked glass door. All were found not guilty on Monday.

Nothing encapsulates Trump's whole thing more than saying "I AM NOT HAPPY WITH YOU" to federal employees.
JUST IN: With air traffic control system that was straining before the shutdown, Trump urges any controllers who sicked out to quit, perhaps ahead of the upcoming holidays

American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

Feels lame when a song doesn’t require pouring my heart out or processing something in my subconscious, but I also need to write more of these songs. It’s cathartic in a “whew I won’t be hit with a wave of deep emotions every time I sing it” way.

the real move if you want to be the presidential nominee in 2028 is to come out and say who did the vote swapping, air the dirty laundry, and say “our voters deserve better” imo. position yourself as the champion of the dem base against the crooked leadership they hate
