Just started reading ‘Love in Time: An Ethical Inquiry,’ by Fannie Bialek, and I’m already loving this critical evaluation of divine agape. Can a divine love that does not depend on any action of the beloved really be called “love” in any meaningful sense?

I have trouble with this bit right here, which feels kind of clunky and not very intentional

Since tomorrow is his feast day, here’s one of my favorite depictions of Luke the Evangelist that I’ve gotten to see in person. From a 6th-century baptistery in the Cathédrale Saint-Sauveur d'Aix-en-Provence.

My cat Yare died yesterday. He was the sweetest, gentlest creature I ever met, and was my best bud for 15 years. I miss him terribly.

Found this online. Looks like the printed “rubrics” in the liturgy booklet give churches the option to recite the Nicene Creed, the Apostles’ Creed, or this “Expression of Faith”. I don’t remember there being three different options when I worked in the diocese, but I could be mistaken.

Anyone interested in reading and discussing this book together, maybe starting in January 2026? I've pre-ordered it, and it's supposed to ship in late October.

Bialek is assistant prof of religion and politics at WashU in St. Louis.

Well, it only took a decade to get around to it, but on I whim I went to a beginner’s bonsai workshop this weekend and came home with a lil bonsai umbrella plant
