I do think you can understand the present state of world affairs better if you believe that the worst person alive has, since 2017, been the most powerful person alive the majority of the time.

I hope men understand that it is very very rare for anyone who is not a woman’s lover, close friend, or relative to stand up for her when another man insults her in a room of other men. It is incredibly unusual. They may not join in the bullying, but they’re unwilling to step in to stop it.

the Larry Summers thing makes me think about how my old (male) boss who had been giving me too much attention (to the point that other coworkers made comments) simply could not WAIT to tell me he was getting divorced. Just champing at the bit to deliver the news. I think my reaction was "oh, sorry?"
