This is one example of what people meant when they warned that Trump wanted to go back to a time before the civil rights act and before the fourteenth amendment.
“When the eight African American sheriffs took over the largest counties in North Carolina, it became a threat to the good ol’ boy system," the Charlotte sheriff told Bolts in 2023 to explain why the GOP was targeting him.

This weekend, DHS announced the deployment of federal agents in Charlotte.

Editor’s note: The GOP-run legislature passed this bill in September 2024, sending it to Democratic Governor Roy Cooper’s desk. After Cooper vetoed the bill, Republican lawmakers overrode his veto in....

Incredible video from Reddit (too large to upload the screencap). CBP agents attempt to detain a flower vendor and end up getting chased into a vacant lot by a crowd of teenagers. What a bunch of impotent sad sacks.

F that!

Yes, because the thing about girls is that they don't stay girls for very long. Which makes them disposable. And which means that men like Epstein need a huge supply.
NEW: Epstein survivors release the most powerful PSA I have ever seen.

Make this go viral so every member of the House of Representatives sees it.

You know, everyone, the only power our disgraced and disgraceful president really wants is the voluntary obedience of cowards & grifters. If people don’t do his illegal & insane demands, he falls apart.

Courage. Use it.

if you have a few spare coins, a local family could really use your help
My neighbors just up the street from us own A-squared pizza in Charlottesville, and their youngest was recently diagnosed with leukemia.

Their family is really nice, and this is a huge bummer right before the holidays. A GoFundMe has been set up for the family to help with everything.

Can confirm. It took Covid to end this practice. It’s not ancient history.
If you are not in academia, you might not know this, but job interviews used to be held at conferences IN HOTEL ROOMS. Women candidates in a hotel room alone with often all-male committees. People sitting on beds! The horror stories I've heard.
I thing I sometimes thing about is that university departments were still doing job interviews in hotel rooms in the mid aughts

One of the most awkward/bad-vibes occasions in my entire career was a hotel room (not suite) interview with a 5-person search committee, 2 of whom were literally sitting on the bed. And I'm a dude; I can only imagine how creepy this was for women.

The Christian right for decades has fear-mongered that federal agents (under Dem presidents) would "criminalize" Christianity and literally prevent them from worshipping.

Now that Trump's stormtroopers are doing it ... crickets
Here’s a story for every national news outlet:

In N.C., churchgoers are literally running into the woods as federal agents descend on the property.

“Inside the church, women and children sobbed as they wondered whether their loved ones had been taken.”

FWIW, I've reached out to the Alliance Defending Freedom and the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty — groups that have long touted their support for religious freedom — about things such as the treatment of clergy, alleged inability of ICE detainees to access religious rites, etc.

No response yet.

So in that scenario, nobody would have health insurance.

If they are healthy, they keep the money; if they have a serious illness or accident, they can't pay for treatment, go bankrupt, and experience serious harm or death.

Hmmm, seems like someone should be able to get health insurance instead.

THAT'S LITERALLY HOW THE SUBSIDIES & ACA EXCHANGES WORK ALREADY.

CONSUMERS ARE INFORMED BY COMPARING POLICIES ON THE ACA EXCHANGES, THEN THEY PURCHASE ONE AND THE GOVERNMENT PAYS SOME OR ALL OF THE COST OF THAT POLICY.

I'M TEARING THE LITTLE HAIR I HAVE ON MY HEAD OUT.
Cassidy: "The president is proposing that we take the $26b that would be going to insurance companies if we just do an extension and give it directly to the American people in which 100% of the money is used for them to purchase healthcare on their own terms. That makes them an informed consumer."
