My best advice to aspiring authors of scholarly books is to read other scholarly books recently published by your target press. This may seem obvious and yet is not!
I guess

I guess it would be in poor taste to speculate on the reasons for the delay

PSA: Women's gold medal ice hockey game (USA vs Canada) is about to go into sudden death overtime

My policy on heavy edits is to send the writer a pdf with all changes accepted alongside the TC document, and suggest the open the pdf first. If they like it, they don’t even have to look at the other one
This is why you should ALWAYS hide tracked changes the first time you read through edits
the best editors can cut like 400 words from your draft and you're like wait what did you even change? it reads the same just kinda better? and @davidswanson.bsky.social has this power

BREAKING: The Department of Education has ended its directive that attempted to restrict diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in schools nationwide.

This is a victory for academic freedom and education equity.

Hot Tip for Writers who are querying:
Have someone who is unfamiliar with your story read over your query and synopsis. If they don’t understand what the book is about or how the story unfolds neither will an agent.

I don’t know who needs to hear Jesse Jackson leading the kids on Sesame Street in this beautiful call-and-response reminding them that every child is somebody, but here it is

I thing I regret about my childhood is that I first encountered figures like Jackson through a Reagan bubble. I wish 9-year-old me had had the context to appreciate his Rainbow Coalition.

Judge Rufe's opinion ordering the Trump administration to restore truthful panels about Washington's ownership of enslaved persons from the President's House site in Phila is here. (I jailbroke it from PACER.)

TL;DR: Gov't acted arbitrarily, capriciously.

The treasurer, Yolanda Brown, is a Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based campaign consultant who was last month accused of embezzling six figures worth of campaign dollars from another Democrat.

I've wondered if we're living through a different sort of epistemic closure: not one of the right cocooning itself in participatory nonsense, but rather one of billionaires grown confident that closing on—i.e., purchasing—the means of knowledge production will let them dictate what's real or true.
Trump on the endangerment finding: "This radical rule became the legal foundation for the green new scam. One of the greatest scams in history, maybe even greater than the Russia Russia Russia hoax."
