I work in a boutique. A male customer wanted us to gift wrap a scarf and lingerie separately, with cards addressed to different women's names. Nothing new to us. But he'd parked a Tesla, so just before sealing up the boxes I switched the two cards. Serve him right.

It's best to go through life assuming friends and family have never read a single thing you've written and never will, any more than you have engaged with what they do for a living
one of our big AWP tips is to not corner acquaintances into telling you whether they've read your book or not: either you're going to hate the answer or they're going to resent being forced to talk about it. Let them bring it up. Or not.
