The question is not who is the sexiest Muppet (Rowlf) but how is it that so many of the Muppets are sexy.

Artsy people like avant garde dogs like borzoi, etc, that look like they were dreamed up in a salon in Paris in the 1920s. I prefer dogs that look like they were invented by five year olds and drawn in crayon. (Goldens, Alaskan Malamutes, Beagles, Samoyed, Great Pyrs, native mutts of Asia, etc.)

Agree
Novelistic in scope and a structural marvel, THE SECRET AGENT (Kleber Mendoça Filho, 2025) is by far the best film I’ve seen from last year. It’s especially clever in how it doles out both the traditional movie pleausres and the bleakest truths of life under dictatorship. A masterpiece.

"If I Had Legs I'd Kick You" makes an interesting choice to keep much of the film in closeup of Rose Byrne's face. Rather than feel voyeuristic, like many films feel when centered on women, it (to me) felt more like an attempt at the interiority that fiction does better than film.

The Pavement algo hit, Harness Your Hopes, is one thing but I wonder if it's discovered their weird song Greenlander yet.

This is horrible but also...most photographers would just say they threw their camera but a Leica user HAS to let you know it's a Leica.
Photo by Pierre Lavie. Yes this is me. And I threw my Leica. It landed on the bass plate with hardly a scratch. Another Photographer grabbed it along with my phone and I was able to track him later. I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.

In the fall I was interviewed by the UFT newspaper on how the school phone ban has affected the library & said our circulation is up. I finally ran the circ stats yesterday & learned not only is it up, we've already circulated 100 more books than all of last year.

Today’s march took the same Fifth Ave route as the 1917 anti-lynching Silent Parade, one of the first American civil rights protests. Both started at 59th, by General Sherman’s statue, and headed downtown. For more on the Silent Parade: hyperallergic.com/naacp-silent...

My mom showed me how to sharpen a knife with toothpaste and the bottom dull edge of a ceramic plate (and also the edge of my stone topped sink). She'd survive in a post-apocalyptic world.

My mom treats a visit to my apt like a trip to the best thrift shop. Eyeing my red leather gloves- "Do these still fit you?" As if my hands had suddenly bulked out. "Yes, do you want them?" The happy gleam in her eye the only answer I needed.

Love this description of a party from OUR SHARE OF NIGHT by Mariana Enriquez. Sure, they're living through the ravages of a brutal dictatorship, but they still know adult pleasures.
